The return to Rúa Sol

On the ground floor of 142 Rúa Sol, Pablo Romero, Occy, returned in 2018 to the same venue where, in the late nineties, he took his first steps as a DJ spinning Nirvana, Oasis, and the rock of that decade. Before that, the space had housed Kallejón, El Desván, and El Royal. On November 30, 2018, together with cultural programmer Maximino López Rivas, he opened La Room as a concert café: a hub for live music, DJ sessions, micro-theater, monologues, and presentations, designed so that Ferrol wouldn't have to go to another city to hear a concert.

Bar culture in a small format

The venue champions bar culture. The space is soundproofed, with a stage that splits the center of the room, a bar attached to the dance floor, and concert lighting. In seven years of history, there have been about 740 live shows of rock, indie, folk, fado, tango, or traditional music, plus about thirty events such as MicroTeatro or La Room das Mulleres. The stage has hosted Mikel Erentxun, Pancho Varona, Mercedes Ferrer, Amparo Sánchez, The Toxenes, Killers Barbies, Capsula, or Willie Buck, along with local bands for whom the space serves as a showcase. The Ferrol-based label Run-Rum Axencia, linked to Maxi, has even recorded live albums inside the venue itself.

DJ booth, vinyl, and La Room Electrónica

When the concert ends, the ground floor turns into a club. La Room Electrónica brings together Occy and Mario D'Fer with house and tech house guests—Simone Liberali, Danielo, David Meiser—in digital and vinyl format. Occy closes the anniversaries from the DJ booth; the disco ball and the lamps over the bar turn the Magdalena into a small electronic dance floor. In 2026, the venue presented the Pavo Fest lineup there, with the house residents. Rock, indie, and electronic music coexist on the same floor, in a niche that the management describes without pretense: it is no longer the most common music among the youngest audience.

The SOS that prevented closure

In the summer of 2026, Ferrol was on the verge of being left with only one concert venue. A crowdfunding campaign raised 9,000 euros and 134 donations ahead of schedule, with support from musicians, other venues, and the public from outside the region. Three staff members, tickets from five to ten euros, and declining bar consumption were not covering expenses in the face of macro-festivals. La Room remains open and is preparing to blow out eight candles on November 30, with Pancho Varona back on the stage at 142.
