The sky as a roof on Orange Avenue

Above the asphalt of Orange Avenue the roof ends: house, EDM and a concrete dance floor where you dance in the open air, with lasers and fog cutting through the skyline of downtown Orlando. Aero Rooftop Bar doesn't chase the sunset cocktail; it pushes the night upwards, with the DJ booth marked with its isotype and the cabanas spelling out the name letter by letter.

From Sky Sixty to Aero

The rooftop is the same one occupied by Sky Sixty (also SKY60), a terrace of cabanas and DJs already mentioned in the local press in the mid-2000s, between The Social and The Beacham. On August 31, 2014, Sky Sixty, Eye Spy and Bar-BQ Bar closed after not renewing their lease. In early September, Gerard Mitchell—then in charge of The Social and The Beacham—reopened the space as Aero: repainted cabanas, new plants and the same lounge-plus-dance-floor vibe. The name change didn't move the venue; it redirected it.

Electronic music at The Block

Today Aero is the rooftop of The Block Orlando, the group of venues on North Orange Avenue. A single security checkpoint grants access to the terrace and the ground floor clubs—The Patio, The Corner, 64 North—with free entry to the complex. Downstairs the menu is more commercial hits and hip hop; upstairs the contract is electronic. On Fridays and Saturdays, resident Dominick Morrison, known as The Dom, mixes house, latin house, EDM and electronic re-edits; on Thursdays, Ladies Night is hosted by DJ Kiko, with doors at 22:00 and admission from 18 years old. In the center, it functions as the roof of electronic music: you come here to dance, not to contemplate the scenery.

Cabanas, bars and rooftop hours

The venue is on the second floor, open-air. Sofas, tables and private cabanas with bottle service surround a dance floor that occupies almost the entire venue. There is a main bar and two smaller ones. The Block also announces monthly daytime parties on the rooftop, but Aero's regular programming is Thursday, Friday and Saturday starting at 22:00, with a usual closing time at 02:00. To get there, the venue itself suggests rideshare or downtown parking: the rooftop is not a tourist shortcut, it is the elevated dance floor of downtown Orlando.
