A 1927 theater with a superclub pulse

The historical arch of the old Hollywood Playhouse is still noticeable in the room: columns, balcony, stage house, and architecture designed for spectacle before it became a dance floor. AVALON Hollywood occupies the building at Hollywood & Vine that opened on January 24, 1927, and which, under different names, went through almost a century of entertainment in Los Angeles: theater, radio, television, concerts, and nightclub. Its genealogy includes stages like Hollywood Palace and The Palace, a key transformation in which the auditorium was adapted to a concert and dance format. That continuity explains why the venue functions as more than just a nightclub: it is a historic hall with a memory of stage, balcony, and audiovisual production.

From The Palace to large-format electronic music

The current identity arrived in 2002, when the old Palace was restored and relaunched as AVALON Hollywood, with John Lyons leading the new stage. Since then, the venue has consolidated itself as a hub of the Los Angeles electronic scene without abandoning its role as a venue for concerts and special events. In its different programming cycles, house, techno, trance, psytrance, bass, and hardstyle have had weight, in addition to live formats and nights linked to EDM culture. Series like Avaland or Control operated as programming within the venue and helped define its profile in a city where club music coexists with the audiovisual industry.

Main Room, Bardot, and technical machinery

The Main Room is the physical heart of AVALON: large-format stage, central dance floor, balcony, high-capacity bars, and visual production based on LED screens, including a main 4K screen. The sound is not limited to a generic club label: the room declares a system with EAW line array, Void Incubus subwoofers, Midas consoles, and technical capacity for concerts, DJ sets, broadcasts, and corporate events. On the second floor, Bardot functions as a separate and intimate space, with an open-air mezzanine patio, retractable roof, its own bars, and a DJ booth, which allows combining a large room experience with a more private lounge atmosphere.

An active institution in Hollywood

The building's trajectory has passed through artists and moments of popular culture, from The Beatles and The Rolling Stones to the last concert of The Ramones in 1996, but its relevance to clubbing is better understood in the relationship between history and the dance floor. DJs like Sasha, Frankie Knuckles, or Goldie appear associated with its electronic memory, while the recent stage has reinforced club programming with Insomniac and brands like Factory93, Dreamstate, Bassrush, Basscon, and Night Trip. AVALON remains active with Friday and Saturday nights, additional events, and a 21+ door for the main club nights. Its strength is in that unusual mix: Hollywood heritage, concert hall, superclub infrastructure, and a dance floor that remains connected to the current scene in Los Angeles.
