The postcode that became a dance floor

Opposite the historic Tobacco Dock in Wapping, a former factory site stopped being a rental canvas to become a club. Since 2012, the building operated as Studio Spaces, a photo studio and event venue. In 2017, Yuval Hen and Oren Arush committed to a permanent identity, took the name of the E1 postal district, and opened with a 27-hour New Year's marathon featuring Ben Klock, Maceo Plex, Rødhåd, and Âme. E1 London presents itself as one of the last 100% independent clubs in London.

The Warehouse built around the Funktion-One

The renovation was not cosmetic. Sound Services designed two five-way Funktion-One systems: Evolution 6, F215, 21-inch F221 subwoofers, and the 32-inch BR132A. The Warehouse is organized around a Wall of Sound; the Black Studio was redesigned around the booth and the dance floor. There is also a chill-out area to recover your hearing. The acoustics were fine-tuned by Shaun Murkett. The cited inspiration was Trouw, Tresor, The Cross, and The End: a raw warehouse with the tools of a complete club.

Laser, CO2, and floor-to-ceiling screen

Starting in 2023, the venue reinforced its visual immersion: a floor-to-ceiling screen, over 151 lighting fixtures, lasers, CO2 cannons, and Rebel Overlay content on a 4K canvas. The Funktion-One system reaches all three music rooms. The layout remains industrial—exposed brick, pillars, polished concrete—so that the system and the dance floor take center stage.

The full spectrum, from Detroit to East London

The E1 Presents line coexists with NTS, Percolate, VOLT, Alchemy, and Free From Sleep. Artists who have played there include Carl Cox, Jeff Mills, Helena Hauff, Robert Hood, Sasha, Ellen Allien, Jah Shaka, Sven Väth, Moodymann, or Nastia. A Friday might be techno; Saturday, house, garage, or afro house. DJ Mag included it in the Top 100 Clubs in 2020 (52nd place) and in 2022 it reached 45th.

Independent after the closure

During the pandemic, it opened Site 5, an outdoor bar and food spot next to the venue, and received a grant from the Arts Council. At the turn of 2025 to 2026, it celebrated seven years with several consecutive days of programming. The official capacity is 1,600 people. It remains an East London warehouse designed for dancing until 6:00 AM.
