The cellar that was meant to be a cinema

In the basement of the Centro Comercial da Foz, a stone's throw from Avenida do Brasil and the Atlantic, a room designed as a cinema ended up becoming the most persistent dance floor in the Oporto nightlife. From that floor plan, an amphitheater was born for standing, not sitting: a rarity in 1987. The debut was remembered for its exposed brick and minimal underground aesthetic. João Mário Pinho was the owner; Mário Carvalho, who had gone up to the booth to fix the sound, stayed in charge and defined decades of club culture in Nevogilde. Thus, Indústria Club was born.

Local heroes and superstars

The motto Local Heroes and International Superstars summed up the commitment: residents of the Porto scene and names from abroad. It was one of the first venues in the city designed for dancing. There, Rui Moreira heard deep house for the first time; Pedro Abrunhosa had a bar for seven years; Rui Reininho pointed to it as the first place to open on Christmas Eve. After a five-month break in 1998, the house was ahead of the curve in booking international DJs. The booth saw the likes of DJ Vibe—who also rebuilt the space—, Phil Weeks, Kerri Chandler, Seth Troxler, Ida Engberg, Nic Fanciulli, The Advent, Adiel, Traumer, Chris Stussy, Josh Wink, Kiasmos, or Fatboy Slim. In the final stage, house and techno played over a Funktion-One system.

Dance floor, lounge, and background sea

The room, about 434 square meters, features a wooden dance floor, disco ball, central booth, industrial-style light rings, and a lounge area with curtains and sofas. The Foz do Douro crowd would arrive at midnight and leave at six. Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and eves: selective door, full bar, and a cellar that felt separate from the shopping center above.

Closed, flooded, and waiting

There have been no parties since 2023. In 2024, a pump failure flooded the venue with half a meter of water; later, leaks came through the ceiling. In May 2026, a judicial auction of the company Décibeis À Solta was annulled by court order, and the management promised to rehabilitate and reopen with better conditions. The physical venue remains in Foz, degraded and waiting, as one of the historic clubs of Porto's electronic culture.
