The address Chicago didn't forget

At 1543 North Kingsbury, Chicago clubbing has a concrete memory: almost nineteen years of Crobar, with a packed dance floor and celebrity parties near North and Clybourn, the 2010 closure, the brief stint of Nikki Nightclub, and a building that even sat empty. In July 2016, it lit up again as PRYSM Chicago, with an opening weekend headlined by A-Trak. Jeff Callahan, Nick Karounos, and Lucas King promised a night of luxury in the style of Miami and Las Vegas—table, champagne, front booth—and, deliberately, without a sign on the facade: not a speakeasy, but a venue you arrive at because you already know the address.

Two floors, LED wall, and Funktion-One

The interior, signed by Miami designer Francois Frossard, distributes about 10,000 square feet between the Main Room, the mezzanine, and the champagne lounge No.9. The official capacity is 850 people. Facing the dance floor, a large-format booth-stage and a 20 by 20 foot LED wall focus the gaze; above, the mezzanine overlooks the crowd. Sound Investment installed Funktion-One with Full Fat Audio amplification in the room and mezzanine, and a system from the same brand in the VIP lounge. The lighting by Steve Lieberman (SJ Lighting), with Chauvet Professional washes and strobes, was designed not to turn off the lounge when the dance floor asks for sweeps. Three bars, a VIP suite, coat check, and valet complete a hybrid that the club itself uses for both DJ nights and private events.

From Hardwell and Zedd to the house agenda

In the early years, heavyweights of EDM and crossover passed through that booth—Hardwell, Zedd, DJ Mustard, Drake—and later Alesso, RL Grime, Galantis, or Blasterjaxx. The recent lineup leans toward house, tech house, and techno, with doors at 10:00 PM and a second dance floor upstairs in No.9. It remains a 21+ venue in Lincoln Park, with a usual closing time at 4:00 AM and 5:00 AM on Saturdays: less of a stadium and more of a table and dance floor club, anchored to the same block that Chicago already associated with electronic nightlife.
