When the chorus «¡electrolatino!» started to be heard on radios and at festivals, Juan Magán had already been crossing club house with merengue, dembow, and Latin pop for years. The chant—born from a conversation with Don Omar and a song that invited listeners to enter "the home of electro latino"—became his hallmark: big dance floor, immediate chorus, and a constant back-and-forth between Europe and the Caribbean.

Firestorm, F.A.O., and Guajiros del Puerto

The journey begins in Badalona, in the electronic scene of the late nineties. In 1999, he released the mákina track "Firestorm" with Alfredo Piñar under the name On/Off and, that same year, three singles for Bit Music signed as Joan Magán under the alias F.A.O. Later, he explored house with César del Río, collaborated with his brother Víctor Magán, and launched Guajiros del Puerto alongside Marcos Rodríguez. "Bomba" was part of El Disco de Reggaeton by Vale Music (2004) and "Hazlo así" was featured on the soundtrack of Yo soy la Juani.

Suave, Fama, and five Latin nominations

Between 2007 and 2009, the duo Magán & Rodríguez brought Latin house to the charts with the album Suave and tracks like "Bora Bora" and "Suck My," which were certified double platinum. In 2009, Magán started his solo career as the official DJ for Fama, ¡a bailar! on Cuatro. Then came "Verano Azul" (double platinum) and "Bailando por ahí"—gold record and nominated in 2011 for the Latin Grammy for Best Tropical Song—, which was reworked as "Bailando por el mundo" with Pitbull and El Cata. He also collaborated with Inna and Don Omar.

The Latin Recording Academy has granted him five nominations for the Latin Grammys, including Best New Artist and Best Tropical Fusion Album for The King of Dance (2012) and again for tropical fusion for The King Is Back (2015). In 2012, he performed at the gala in Las Vegas. Works such as The King Is Back (#LatinIBIZAte), Quiero que sepas (2016), and 4.0 (2019) crossed pop, urban, and dance with Enrique Iglesias, Paulina Rubio, J Balvin, Belinda, Gente de Zona, Yandel, or Farruko. Music videos like "Si no te quisiera" and "Déjate llevar" exceeded two hundred million views. His label We Love Asere and Universal Music have formed the backbone of much of that discography. In 2015, he obtained Dominican citizenship.

The Bernabéu and the dance floor that never turns off

On April 26, 2024, he took the stage at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium for Locos por la música, the festival that reopened the venue for concerts. He continues to release music—with recent tracks like "Ayer la vi" alongside Omar Montes—and tour with electro latino as his banner: a club figure who, without ever leaving the DJ booth, has become one of the most recognizable Spanish faces in Latin dance music.
