Biography of Sunbar
A club for what the scene was missing
In the autumn of 2019, the group that was already running Shady Park and C.A.S.A. was looking for a venue in downtown Tempe capable of hosting big bands and club sets. Diamond Juice, led by Scott Price, took over number 24 West 5th Street, on the corner of Maple Avenue: offices on the top floor and the former head shop Trails on the ground floor. From that two-story box emerged Sunbar, with the concert hall upstairs and, downstairs, a garden patio with a central bar, kitchen, and 45 beers on tap.
The first Trinity to stay home
The dance floor debuted with the first PK Sound Trinity permanently installed in North America, and that system remains the venue's fixed equipment. The concert space is around 6,800 square feet and is advertised with a 800 person capacity, two bars, elevated VIP tables, and a wall-sized LED wall. In 2022, the venue's technical inventory also added eight T10 modules from PK Sound. The DJ booth features Pioneer CDJ-2000NXS2 and a DJM-900NXS2. The patio, with a bar and grill, adds another 450 spots, and access to both the club and the patio is at street level.
Pinball, brunch, and club night
From day one, the venue was designed as a multi-purpose space: concerts, celebrations, and a lineup open to big bands, rock, latin, or hip hop, in addition to clubbing. The Bumper Room, the pinball room, and the Patio Bar & Grill remain part of the venue's identity. The weekend mixes day and night service. Friday starts at 21:00 and closes at 02:00; Saturday opens at 11:00 and Sunday stays open until 22:00, with brunch on the patio. Club nights are 21+ and the dress code is casual or smart casual.
The Relentless weekend
In October 2019, with the club already up and running, Relentless Beats booked Hot Since 82, Cristoph, and Denis Sulta, the set where the Trinity was presented. In 2021, Sunbar was chosen as the best club in the Valley at the Best of Phoenix awards, an honor that recognized the large-format dance floor, the sound, and the LED wall. That partnership continues to curate the nights, ranging from house, trance, bass, drum and bass, and hardstyle, with sets by Darude, Benny Benassi, Flux Pavilion, Cosmic Gate, or Da Tweekaz. The patio hosts Latin parties, R&B, and day sets. In 2026, the website, social media, and weekend lineup remain active under Diamond Juice.
