A hacienda over the warehouse

In October 2011, a festive occupation took, still ephemerally, the rooftop of La Sucrière: the industrial warehouse from the thirties that looks out over the Saône in Confluence. The La Fédération agency lit it up during the Contemporary Art Biennale and the roof was marked in the Lyonnais memory. On June 26, 2013, Culture Next—in the orbit of Arty Farty—kept the name and opened Le Sucre as a stable venue. The first year, more than 150,000 people crossed the door.

A club that changes its skin every night

The programming shuns pigeonholing. The same space goes from a panoramic bar to a concert hall, from a mini-club to a Sunday techno mass. The Sunday S.society are the most recognizable dance floor appointment: international artists, open terrace, and contained rates, with free entry before 7:00 PM in season. The Magic Mardi cede the rooftop to the local scene, often from 6:00 PM to 1:00 AM. Fridays function as a blank check to collectives and Saturdays the club live format puts the live act at the center of the night. Residencies and cycles like Garçon Sauvage, Children of the Drum, or après le travail have left their mark, always with an ear to the emerging artists of the territory.

Custom Meyer and Club Culture label

What is heard on the dance floor is not an ornament: a custom-conceived Meyer soundsystem—JM-1P clusters, UPQ-1P, 1100-LFC array, and Galileo processing—sustains the sound reputation of the place. In 2025, the French Ministry of Culture included it in the first wave of the Club Culture label. The capacity reaches 780 people between the room and the fourth-floor terrace, at 50 quai Rambaud, over the warehouse that had already hosted the first editions of Nuits Sonores before the club existed.

Mediation on the rooftop

Mediators wait at the entrance. Inside, the Social Corner operates, a space for prevention and listening. Since 2019, the food offer is vegetarian, courtesy of the HEAT food hall. The venue has been ISO 20121 certified since 2023, joined the Bye Bye Plastic charter, and declares an explicit policy against sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, and ableism. The rooftop and the room are accessible to people with disabilities: the party is also thought of as a safe place.
