From bus depot to open dancefloor

The former GVB bus depot on Basisweg in Sloterdijk stopped housing the fleet to become, in 2019, the playground for Lofi. The venue was born as an ode to imperfection: industrial doors, high ceilings, remnants salvaged from ADM and Robodock, and a courtyard fenced with shipping containers. Samuel Taselaar and Nelson Yogh Niemel drove the project to bring pulse back to Amsterdam's freest nightlife culture: it opened on June 13th as a neighborhood creative oasis and, since October, as a club, with a ZeeZout warehouse party during ADE that brought Midland, Optimo, and Avalon Emerson.

Three bodies, one factory

The heart is the Club, the warehouse space connected to the outside by large garage doors. Next to it, the Colorfloor operates as a second dancefloor, more contained and chromatic. The Courtyard is the most unique piece: an open-air dancefloor on an industrial scale, with art, food, and sessions that start during the day and cross into the night. Together, some 1,800 m² host raves, concerts, cinema, and community gatherings. The studio Space Encounters designed it as a playground of industrial pieces, where inside and outside dissolve.

House, techno, and ADE marathons

The programming is based on house, techno, and disco, with club nights and sessions lasting fifteen hours or more. Collectives like Rush Hour, Ratherlost, VBX, Strangelove, and Slapfunk have made the warehouse an anchor of the Amsterdam Dance Event. Technical producer Kevin Govaerts designed a Funktion-One system —Evolution 7 and 6, R3EH, Resolution 2, and nine F221 subwoofers— to fill the open dancefloor. In the main room, the lighting installation by Lumus Instruments dialogues with the concrete.

Open door, clear rules

Lofi operates as a cashless and 18+ club, with lockers, a food court, and gender-neutral bathrooms. The door policy demands respect for origin, gender, and orientation, and may deny access due to intoxication, large groups, football jerseys, or discriminatory clothing. The schedule changes with each event; what remains constant is the invitation to dance in a factory that, years later, remains one of the most vibrant warehouses in the west of Amsterdam.
