A soulful short circuit in the middle of tech house fever

When tech house became the only language on the dancefloor, No Worries sounded like a short circuit: a shredded vocal sample, released on Cécille Records and turned into one of the most recognizable tracks in Ibiza in 2010. Butch, formed in the Mainz scene and with Turkish roots, has spent over two decades moving between house, techno, and everything in between, without asking permission from the season's climate.

From DMC to a mapless discography

His entry wasn't the club, but hip hop. At eleven years old, he saw a DMC World Championships final, went through breakdance and graffiti, and stuck with the turntables. Through local contests, he ended up as a resident in 2002, and by 2005 he was already DJing in Japan. In 2008, production aligned with his sets: nominations at the Beatport Music Awards for Best Techno and Best Remix, the album Papillon on Great Stuff Recordings, and the founding of Bouq. Records. Nomad arrived as an acid anthem when minimal covered everything; Sweet in the Morning and later Dope —included in Seth Troxler's DJ-Kicks— confirmed that obsession with the hypnotic loop and the breakdown that gives no warning.

Groove and Raveline voted him Best Producer two years in a row. On Resident Advisor, he reached the position of one of the most charted artists on the platform. The list of labels looks like a map of the scene: Rekids, Cocoon, Defected, Innervisions, Running Back, Desolat, Watergate, Diynamic, Crosstown Rebels, Moon Harbour, Drumcode, Life and Death and his own Otherside, opened alongside percussionist Hohberg to explore more psychoacoustic electronica.

Villalobos, Circoloco, and the club as home

Early support from Ricardo Villalobos opened doors. Together they signed as ButRic for Sei Es Drum, with cuts like Balam. He has shared vinyl or studio time with Johnny D, C. Vogt, Nic Fanciulli —I Want You—, Cassius, or Armand van Helden. In the booth, the German circuit remains his anchor: long nights at Robert Johnson in Offenbach and a residency at Watergate in Berlin, in addition to Sankeys in Ibiza. On the island, he is a regular presence at Circoloco at DC-10, Pacha, Amnesia, Ushuaïa, and Hï. BBC Radio 1 commissioned his Essential Mix in 2012 and again in August 2023. He has also passed through fabric in London, Time Warp in Mannheim, and the Cocoon Club in Frankfurt.

The chameleon continues to set the tempo

In 2025, his remix of Fallin In Love by Duck Sauce was played by Solomun, The Martinez Brothers, or Joseph Capriati; Get High With You was released on Defected and Lale landed on Innervisions. The Official Bump Call EP on Rekids and Formula E on Life and Death maintain the dancefloor pulse. Today he divides his life between Ibiza and Dubai, directs the Come To Butch series at Chinois, and continues to present himself as what he is: a four-deck selector, with humor on social media and zero interest in hype.
