Biography of A For Alpha
The phonetic alphabet and vinyl fever
In a British call center, A was spelled Alpha. From that everyday gesture, A For Alpha was born, a DJ and producer originally from Cornwall and based for over a decade in Bristol, where she has turned 90s house, garage, and techno into a contemporary dancefloor language. She grew up with the Ministry of Sound and Gatecrasher compilations of her mother, who went to raves at twenty-one; that domestic archive—trance, garage, Ibiza anthems—remains her school.
She started DJing over ten years ago, chasing on vinyl what didn't exist in digital. Her first gig was at eighteen at Timbuktu, still without her own turntables. Today she works with three XDJ-700s, a DJM-750Mk2, two Technics 1210Mk2s, and nearly a thousand records. The sampling of vocalists and loops from that decade, filtered through an Akai MPC-2000XL, a Roland TR-09, and Ableton, marks both her sets and her studio in Stokes Croft, where she also teaches DJing and production.
HARD24, the label and club archive
Her debut EP, HARD24, was released in 2024 on Hardline—Dee Lite, Dark Bongos (I Believe), Let Me Hear Ya, and Delta—tech house and garage rollers designed for the club and born as the final project of her electronic production training. Since then, Counting on Club Cowgirl, Talk 2 Me on Outboard, Do You Get Me on fabric SELECTS, the four-handed EP with Papa Nugs on Suckerpunch, the remix of Tuff Fluff by Joe Koshin, the one for Day Tripper by Framboisier, and Everyone Thinks on Neptune Discs have followed.
In Bristol, she runs Alpha's Trip, a label and party that crosses house, garage, techno, and trance with a 90s edge. On the radio, she is a regular on SWU.FM, now part of Rinse: a bi-weekly space for crate-digging, guests, and rarities that has brought her listeners and gigs beyond the UK. At The Love Inn, she maintains her own residency, with guests like D. Tiffany.
Fabric, Glastonbury, and the leap to Berlin
She has warmed up for Annie Mac at the O2 Academy in Bristol, for Eats Everything at Fabric, and for Chaos in the CBD at Phonox. She has played at Boiler Room, Gottwood, and Glastonbury—including a b2b with Papa Nugs in 2025—and has debuted at Panorama Bar. International booking is handled by Meanwhile. Between the booth, the label, and the classes, A For Alpha occupies a clear place in the British underground scene today: a selector who treats the 90s not as nostalgia, but as living dancefloor material.
