180 BPM Booth: the Xque sound

The Xque nights in Calella de Palafrugell turned mákina into a dancefloor language: dry kicks, aggressive melodies, and relentless mixing. DJ Pastis was one of the architects of that pulse. With over three decades behind the decks, his name remains linked to Catalan rave culture and high-voltage hard dance, not as a museum piece, but as an engine that still packs the dancefloor.

From Sala del Cel to the cathedrals of mákina

Born in Girona in 1973 and raised in the Santa Eugenia neighborhood, he began DJing in 1992 as a resident at Sala del Cel. In 1993 and 1994, he won first prize as a professional DJ in Catalonia and Levante. He passed through Distrito Mias in Canet de Mar and Pont Aeri (Terrassa) before settling in as a resident at Xque from 1995 until its closure in 2007. Later, he brought that same intensity to Activa in Mataró until 2010.

Pastillas, good vibes, and a discography of anthems

Together with DJ Buenri, he has formed one of the most recognizable tandems in the scene since 1995. Their joint nickname—pastillas (pills) plus buen rollo (good vibes)—became a brand. As Pastis & Buenri, they signed anthems and compilations for labels like DJ's At Work, Uptempo, Xque Records, and Bit Music. The single Pildo (1996) reached number 2 on the Spanish charts. In the 2000s, they brought mákina to TVE on Música Sí with Skudero and Xavi Metralla, and in 2003 they released DJ Makina Vol. 3 in France, distributed by Wagram. After a hiatus starting in 2010, their 2015 reunion reactivated the project.

Second round: Boiler Room, HÖR, and Universo Makina

The mákina revival has returned him to top-tier booths. In 2022, he played at Boiler Room during Primavera Sound Barcelona. In May 2025, with Buenri and DJ Sisu, he performed a session at HÖR (Berlin) broadcast by FACE 2 FACE TV, garnering over a million views. They have taken the sound to Amnesia in Ibiza, Medusa Festival, and long-duration vinyl sets, and in 2026 they are touring Spain with the Universo Makina tour. In parallel, Pastis maintains his own production—the Pastis Records label, series like Hardtrance Squad, and recent EPs like Abyss of Delirium—and booking through Jamboo Agency. His style remains the same booth mandate: speed, dancefloor reading, and zero filler.
