The macro-club as a school and vinyl as a weapon

During the nights at Xque?, when Calella de Palafrugell pulsed with high BPMs and euphoric choruses, Buenri consolidated a DJ craft built on vinyl, marathon sets, and an ear for accelerated melody that still defines Catalan mákina. He debuted as a professional DJ in 1993, as a resident on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays at Pont Aeri (Terrassa), the club that served as his school and where he began to build that direct bond with the dance floor that remains his hallmark.

Pastillas, buen rollo, and number 2 on the charts

With DJ Pastis, a friend since he was sixteen—they met dancing at the Psicódromo in Barcelona—he formed the tandem that accelerated a generation. They didn't choose the name on purpose: he was David Buen Rollo and the other was David Pastillas; together, Pastis and Buenri. In December 1996, they became residents at Xque? and remained there for over a decade, until its closure in 2007. They produced the club's maxis and compilations—the Xque Vol. saga—and original tracks like Pildo, which reached number 2 on the Spanish charts in 1996, as well as In Vino Veritas, Moon's Field, or Adrenalin. In the early 2000s, they appeared on TVE's Música Sí, alongside Skudero and Xavi Metralla, and DJ Makina Vol. 3 was released in France. After Xque?, he was a resident at the Activa club. In 2010, the duo split; a year later, with the mákina industry in decline, he explored techno and tech-house as DAVE.IT and maintained his Al-Khemie studio.

Makina Legends, Apolo, and the white room in Berlin

The lockdown forced them to reinvent themselves: they created the Makina Legends YouTube channel and brought mákina back to living rooms turned into nightclubs. The 2022 Primavera Sound—with a session for Boiler Room—and sold-out shows at Sala Apolo broke the stigma that had haunted the genre. In 2024, they opened the Pastis & Buenri Store in Sants, a shop, headquarters, and DJ school. On May 8, 2025, he played at HÖR Berlin with Pastis and DJ Sisu; later came Amnesia in Ibiza, dates in Colombia and Malta, and a wave of current mákina: Universo Makina, Mi olla descontrola with Amygdala, and collaborations with Ruboy, Adrián Mills, or Andrés Campo. Today, the average audience is between 18 and 30 years old; he advocates for playing in the present rather than living off nostalgia, and reserves DAVE.IT for the techno he always loved, while mákina fills dance floors again from Galicia to Málaga.
