Three decks and a groove that asks for no permission

Romanian minimal has one of its most recognizable architects in Raresh: a DJ of long sessions, three decks, and transitions that announce themselves. Co-founder of [a:rpia:r] alongside Rhadoo and Petre Inspirescu, he turned the dry kick, percussive swing, and the space between sounds into a dancefloor language. In his mix, a vocal fragment slips into the percussion of another record while a third holds the harmony; the track change arrives when the floor is already inside, not when the DJ signals it.

From Zebra to fabric, via Villalobos

The scene caught him at 15, spinning in a small club in Bacău. In 2001 he became a resident at Zebra Club, then the only electronic music venue in the city, and in 2003 he moved to Bucharest. The summer of 2004 placed him at the parties on the Black Sea coast; in 2005, with Sunrise, he covered the agency's summer residency and shared the booth with Richie Hawtin, Magda, Steve Bug, Josh Wink, and Ricardo Villalobos. In March 2006, a back-to-back with Villalobos after a concert in Bucharest opened the international circuit. Since 2008, he has been a regular guest at fabric in London, with a cadence of two dates per year, and has been a recurring name at Amnesia, Robert Johnson, and the Sunwaves festival.

[a:rpia:r], Metereze and the Praslesh duo

In 2007, he launched the vinyl label [a:rpia:r] with Rhadoo and Petre Inspirescu, with minimal pressings—the first pressing, in 2007, was around 300 copies—and no reissues. That same year he joined the Cocoon family, with whom he collaborated on compilations. In 2012, together with Praslea, he started the duo Praslesh and the EP Out of Time on Understand. A year later, Metereze was born, his own label, also vinyl-only: it was inaugurated by Dubtil with Odihnioara and has housed heavy-hitting records like Variety of Different Feelings by Barac or Youmanity by Sublee, the latter in 2024. As a producer, he is deliberately sparse. The remix of Tu Ce Faci? by Vlad Caia on Cadenza, the remix LP Vivaltu, and, in 2014, fabric 78, the mix that, along with those by Petre Inspirescu and Rhadoo, brought that sound to the London catalog, carry more weight.

Booths that measure time in hours

Today he remains a fixed name at Sunwaves and Guesthouse, the Bucharest afterhours where the long format is not a stunt of endurance. With Rhadoo and Petre Inspirescu, he forms the RPR Soundsystem, the three-way ping-pong that the scene took as a hallmark. International booking is managed by [a:rpia:r]. In 2025, his set at Houghton was recorded; the marathons with Villalobos—from DC10 to Caprices—remain the place where his craft is best understood: there is no drop for the camera. There is a dancefloor that moves, and a DJ who stays inside.
