Discover Barraca's underground proposal

Barraca begins a new stage by putting its history, its infrastructure, and its convening power at the service of the current Valencian music scene.

There was a time when Valencian clubs were not just places to listen to music. Barraca was the place where musicians, DJs, designers, photographers, artists, promoters, and an audience willing to discover things that didn't yet have a name would coincide. Ideas circulated from one discipline to another, and the creative level of the scene pushed everyone to go a little further.

That exchange helped turn València into a European hub of musical and cultural innovation whose influence transcended the night itself. Today the context is different, but a similar need exists again: spaces where culture can develop freely, experiment, and take risks without responding solely to commercial logic.

And above all, there is a generation willing to do so. Producers, DJs, musicians, artists, and collectives are building a diverse, independent scene that is difficult to reduce to a single genre. Much of that activity happens in small projects, studios, collectives, temporary parties, and self-managed spaces that keep a culture alive despite the difficulty of finding permitted and equipped places to meet, experiment, and grow.

05/09/26 · FIRST CALL

Next Saturday, September 5th, Barraca will bring together a representation of this new scene with L.F.T. [Live], invited from Berlin, connecting Valencian proposals with new ways of understanding live electronic music that are being developed outside our borders.

Participating collectives include ANIMAL, NTN, Domosapiens, Unitat, Grave, BRB Sound System, along with PILAN, MARIO MALILLA, FAG HAG, DJ SAIZER, FALCON, RASO, JOAS, MICHU, ANN BLACKSMITH and DOMEN, SOU ALLEN and LUCAS CABELLO as club residents.

The day will also function as an open call. Barraca keeps its call open for artists and collectives who want to present their work, propose projects, collaborate, or be part of future actions. Because a scene is not built solely by hiring names... it is built by connecting people. And the greater the exchange, the greater the possibility that something that does not yet exist will appear.

Barraca brings together a program especially oriented towards the most advanced electronic sounds on September 19, 2026. The night will be headlined by Colin Benders, recognized for his experimental approach and for taking techno into territories where improvisation, analog electronics, and a strong performative dimension coexist. Joining him will be Domen, Lucas Cabello, and Sou Allen, the new generation of residents in charge of keeping Barraca's underground identity alive.

The collectives DECO and RAW PLANET will be in charge of the local proposals that will be part of the 19th, with artists such as ANN BLACKSMITH, M3LO, VALKAN, 1003, MBERIC, PHLEX, BLOMTEK, FON SMITH, SERRET, KENYI, PIGMÉNTO SÓNICO…

THE SCENE ALREADY EXISTS

The question that Barraca wants to raise now is different: What responsibility do clubs have when they manage some of the few spaces where music, dance, and collective gathering can still happen freely?

The new stage starts from the idea that a venue can do more than just schedule events and sell tickets. It can provide infrastructure, connect people, share visibility, and become a place where a scene can meet. Especially in a city with a musical and cultural heritage like València.

THE SOUND OF VALENCIA IS THE PEOPLE

The proposal starts from a simple idea: the Sound of Valencia does not belong to an era, nor is it a musical genre. It is what happens when a community has space to meet, listen, experiment, make mistakes, mix, and create something of its own.

That is why Barraca is beginning to open its programming and infrastructure to local artists and collectives through calls, residencies, collaborations, and meetings with national and international proposals.

Music occupies the center of the project, but not necessarily its limits. Design, photography, visual arts, fashion, research, and other disciplines will be able to progressively find their place within a venue understood as a cultural container and space for experimentation.

The project is already beginning to connect collectives and artists from the Valencian scene with Barraca residents, cultural projects, and the university sphere. The venue also incorporates new training initiatives linked to electronic music, including the University Certificate for Professional DJs. It is not about Barraca deciding what the next Sound of Valencia should be. It is about helping to create the conditions to discover it.

INFINITE MUSIC

Barraca does not intend to rebuild the Ruta or turn its history into nostalgia. The truly interesting thing about that stage was not a specific aesthetic, a way of dressing, or even a certain sound. It was the freedom to try, the curiosity to discover, the exchange between disciplines, the community, and a cultural context that pushed those who were part of it to continue growing. That is what deserves to continue.

We do not know what the next Sound of Valencia will be. And perhaps that is precisely the point. A different generation. A different music. The same right to experiment.

On September 5th, a new movement begins, or rather, the movement we need returns, because… WE ARE INFINITE MUSIC. THE SOUND OF VALENCIA IS BACK.
