INOTA Festival: Brutalist techno in a Soviet power plant

The industrial rebirth of European clubbing

The intersection between brutalist architecture and contemporary electronic music reaches a new milestone with the fourth edition of the INOTA Festival. Scheduled between August 27 and 30, 2026, this multidisciplinary event reconfigures the more than 225,000 square meters of the former Inota thermal power plant, located in Várpalota, Hungary. What was for decades the main energy engine of the socialist bloc, even supplying all of Budapest, is reborn today as an immersive ecosystem dedicated to club culture and visual arts.

The venue stands out for its undeniable post-apocalyptic and dieselpunk aesthetic, an atmosphere so imposing that it served as a set for the filming of the movie Blade Runner 2049. Its three colossal cooling towers, designed under the innovative Heller-Forgó water system that was awarded at the 1958 Brussels World's Fair, now function as a monumental canvas for light projections and state-of-the-art mappings.

Audiovisual avant-garde and high pulses

The musical curation of this edition firmly bets on the most hypnotic, deep, and hard-hitting sides of techno. The 2026 lineup is headlined by heavyweights in the international underground scene such as Ben Klock, Alarico, Marrøn, D.Dan, Quelza, and the iconic project Sandwell District. These artists will be in charge of dictating the groove and raising the BPMs within the industrial complex, taking advantage of the unique reverberation and acoustics of the turbine halls and reinforced concrete spaces.

Driven by the promoting collectives NVC and Centrum Production, INOTA Festival transcends the traditional dance floor format. The event proposes an experience where cutting-edge sound design merges millimetrically with site-specific art installations created by light artists from all over Europe. This synergy between Soviet historical heritage and electronic experimentation consolidates INOTA as one of the most daring and innovative proposals on the current circuit.
