Native Instruments celebrates three decades of innovation
The iconic music technology company has reached a historic milestone. To commemorate its thirtieth anniversary, the brand has officially released the free Maschine 3.7 update, designed to revitalize the workflow of electronic music producers. Under the official motto that the platform is alive and evolving, this patch is positioned as the first major functional leap since the recent corporate acquisition by the InMusic conglomerate.
Generative sequencing tools
The core of this version focuses on breaking the dreaded blank grid syndrome. The development team has integrated three powerful sequencing engines that inject spontaneous variation directly into the groove:
- Random Note Generator: Allows the software to write notes based on probability percentages, ideal for starting percussive patterns or melodic progressions effortlessly.
- Euclidean Sequencer: A tool inherited from modular synthesis that distributes events equidistantly across a defined number of steps. Its live mode updates rotations in real time without stopping playback.
- Note Event Probability (Chance): Assigns a random value to each individual note. The pattern is recalculated on each loop, keeping the sequence alive until the producer decides to lock in the perfect take.
Multi-genre expansions: From heritage to clubbing
Accompanying the software, the catalog expands with three expansions oriented toward different spectrums of the scene. The crown jewel is Thirty, a commemorative pack that resamples thirty years of the brand's history, extracting iconic sounds from legendary synthesizers like Reaktor, Massive X, and the Play Series.
On the other hand, creators focused on the dance floor find their refuge in Paris Heat, a library heavily inspired by late-nineties French house, loaded with resonant filters and four-on-the-floor rhythms. Finally, Rage Circuit targets the most aggressive hypertrap productions, developed in collaboration with Grammy-winning producer Snipe Young.
Compatibility and hardware deployment
The Maschine 3.7 update is now available for download on compatible desktop systems. However, the developers have issued a crucial technical notice for users of the standalone ecosystem. Due to profound changes in project serialization, files created with this new version will require the Maschine+ hardware to also run patch 3.7. Official support for standalone units is in the final phase of development and will be deployed soon.
