MUTEK 2026 reveals its impressive techno and art lineup

The ecosystem of cutting-edge electronic music once again turns its gaze toward Canada. Recently, MUTEK Montréal unveiled the complete program for its twenty-seventh edition, which will be held next week, from August 25 to 30, 2026. Established as one of the global epicenters for digital creativity and sound experimentation, the festival will bring together more than one hundred and twenty artists from twenty-eight countries, transforming the Quartier des spectacles into an immersive laboratory of frequencies, synthesis, and avant-garde audiovisual art.

This year's proposal, structured under the concept of amplification and resonance, seeks to expand the audience's perceptual limits through live performances, installations, and hybrid formats that transcend the traditional dance floor, while keeping the organization's visionary DNA intact.

A sound map between techno, ambient, and dissonance

The MUTEK 2026 lineup stands out for its precise balance between industry pioneers and the most daring voices of the contemporary scene. Among the names with the greatest international weight is the legendary Jeff Mills, who will contribute his unmistakable futuristic vision of techno, along with key figures of current electronic curation such as Ben UFO and the ever-unpredictable Matthew Herbert.

The more cerebral and atmospheric side will be represented by cult projects that redefine sound design. The Italian duo Voices From The Lake will immerse attendees in their characteristic hypnotic and organic techno, while the live performance by Fennesz & Lillevan promises a masterclass in ambient textures and digital manipulation. The spectrum of experimentation expands with the inclusion of radical proposals such as the Japanese collective Violent Magic Orchestra and ELECTRONICOS FANTASTICOS!. Joining them are talents responsible for shaping the current electronic language, such as Rival Consoles, Barker, Dana Ruh, A Guy Called Gerald, JakoJako, Mia Koden, and Purelink, ensuring a deep exploration from dub techno to bass mutations.

Architecture and acoustics at the service of immersion

One of the great novelties of the 2026 edition is the expansion of its circuit of venues, designed to adapt each performance to a specific acoustic environment. In addition to the festival's already iconic venues, such as the Society for Arts and Technology (SAT) with its iconic immersive Satosphere dome and the MTELUS venue for the intense sessions of the Métropolis series, a new high-caliber space is added: the Maison symphonique. This auditorium, considered a marvel of sound engineering, will open a new monumental dimension for the event, hosting works of almost cinematic scale, including the highly anticipated presentation by Tristan Perich & James McVinnie.

Likewise, the festival will incorporate the Studio-Theatre of Les Grands Ballets for the first time, further diversifying the listening environments. The programming will again be structured into five distinctive series: Nocturne, X/Visions, Métropolis, Play, and Expérience. This will allow attendees to transition from free outdoor events at the esplanade Tranquille to nighttime sessions purely oriented toward avant-garde clubbing.
