The nameless corridor of Espaço Chiado

Access is resolved with a minimal gesture: a doorman on a street in Chiado, no branding on the facade, and an eighties shopping gallery corridor—mirrors, low light, an air of an abandoned center—that leads to Rūmu. The venue occupies the Espaço Chiado, on Rua Nova da Trindade, the same premises that were previously Le Baron. The interior, designed by Quiet Studios, takes Japanese kissaten—those tea shops designed for staying—and crosses them with the Lisbon night: low tables, warm lamps, Japanese-inspired cuisine, and a compact dance floor that fills up without needing a large capacity.

From izakaya to club without changing rooms

Co-founders Peter Loy and Peter Propper conceived it as a hybrid between an izakaya and an intimate club: about 60 covers for dinner and a club capacity of 250 people. Dinner does not function as a disposable prologue; the volume rises, the light closes, and the same room becomes a dance floor. Propper, focused on sound and lights, works on the room's acoustics. On the dance floor, the rule is clear and enforced: no mobile phones. The programming moves between house, techno, minimal, and electro, with long sets and little rush for the peak of the night.

ROOM, vinyl, and a weekday Lisbon

ROOM nights, powered by Carpet & Snares—with a record store in the same building—have turned Wednesday into a clubbing appointment. tINI arrived as a monthly resident; Jorge Caiado and other names from the local scene sustain the ritual. YokoO, based in Lisbon, maintains a residency with long hypnotic house journeys. Selectors like Trus'me, Palms Trax, or Mathew Jonson have passed through the booth. The venue is open from Wednesday to Saturday: during the week it closes around 03:00; Friday and Saturday, around 04:00.

A room that asks for presence, not spectacle

Without signage, with right of admission, access from 25 years old, and appropriate attire—no flip-flops—, the space protects itself from the tourist night of the center. There are sake cocktails, a more reserved corner, and a mixed, international audience that comes to listen. It remains open and programming: it is not the Lisbon megaclub, but a club culture of a small room, food, and dance floor in the same gesture.
