Spin Nightclub

A building designed for the night

Verticality defines the experience: three floors, a mezzanine, a dark main dance floor, and an open-air rooftop make Spin Nightclub one of the most recognizable venues in San Diego for club music. The property was built in 1991 as a nightclub space, something unusual in a city where many venues are born from adapted bars or multi-use rooms. Before adopting its current name, it was Montage, an enclave linked to the city's gay culture; in 2007 it became Spin and inherited that memory of a night dance floor, community, and freedom of format.

A club with rave memory

Its role within the local scene was consolidated by offering a refuge for underground electronic music outside the more commercial circuit of Downtown. Nights like Giant Fridays helped attract international DJs, with names like Armin van Buuren in an early stage for the local market. Starting in 2014, with Brandon Colt in management, the club became a platform for San Diego crews: SD Union, Desert Hearts, House 2 Ourselves, Ego Trip, Overdrive, Kino Village, or Soul Work found there a multi-room format capable of absorbing everything from drum and bass to house, techno, trance, goth night, hip hop, or alternative community parties.

Multiple rooms and sound under reconstruction

The venue combines a medium-capacity main room, VIP areas, bars, mezzanine, and terrace, with a published capacity of 750 people and around 10,000 square feet. Its appeal does not depend on table luxury, but on a labyrinthine circulation and a dance floor that preserves a dark warehouse aesthetic. The new stage started in August 2024 by Brandon Colt and Brandon Garva reinforces that direction: the club has worked with designer and engineer Chris Regalado on a more immersive sound system, adding reinforcements on the dance floor, mezzanine, and VIP, as well as hybrid subwoofers designed for a more physical and controlled response.

San Diego after midnight

Spin remains active with variable programming that alternates nights of local promoters, bass music sessions, tech house showcases, LGBTQ+ dates, terrace parties, and events linked to brands like LED, FNGRS CRSSD, or Wondergate. The room maintains a special relationship with after-hours, although its schedule depends on each license and event. That elasticity, added to the rooftop and its condition as a venue built for dancing, explains why it continues to function as a meeting point for a scene that seeks less posing and more dance floor culture.
