Stadium emotion and the Anjuna family

Large-format melodic trance finds one of its most recognizable languages in Above & Beyond: luminous progressions, vocals charged with intimacy, and a way of building tension that turns the dance floor into a space of communion. Formed in London in 2000 by Jono Grant, Tony McGuinness, and Paavo Siljamäki, the trio quickly consolidated a unique identity through their label Anjunabeats, born from the creative connection between Grant and Siljamäki and later expanded with McGuinness. That initial architecture combined precise studio production, songwriting sensibility, and a vision of community that would eventually define the Anjuna universe.

From the remixes that opened doors to the Group Therapy sound

Their international breakthrough came with a series of remixes that placed the group at the center of British vocal trance, including their take on 'Home' by Chakra and the remix of 'What It Feels Like for a Girl' by Madonna. Key albums followed, such as Tri-State in 2006, Group Therapy in 2011, We Are All We Need in 2015, and Common Ground in 2018, a work that reinforced their arena and festival scale. To that electronic line, they added the more contemplative side of Flow State, an ambient and meditation project released in 2019, in addition to activity under aliases and related projects like OceanLab, alongside Justine Suissa, and Tranquility Base.

Radio, labels, and great live rituals

Beyond their discography, Above & Beyond has built their own cultural network through Anjunabeats, Anjunadeep, and Anjunachill, and the weekly show Group Therapy Radio, the natural successor to Trance Around The World. Their ABGT celebrations have taken that community to iconic venues such as Madison Square Garden, The Gorge Amphitheatre, London, Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Prague, or Mexico City. Live, the group alternates trance euphoria, progressive house, and highly emotional vocal moments, with a dramaturgy of on-screen messages that has become part of their stage language.

A career that keeps looking forward

Industry recognition is reflected in their Grammy nominations for We’re All We Need and Northern Soul, both featuring vocal writing that connects club, electronic pop, and progressive epicness. After several years of parallel work and individual sound research, the trio returned to the electronic album format with Bigger Than All Of Us, released on Anjunabeats, a work focused on reconnecting with their audience and regular collaborators like Zoë Johnston, Richard Bedford, and Justine Suissa. In their recent phase, Above & Beyond maintains a unique position: veterans of modern trance, managers of one of the most influential brands in melodic electronic music, and still a project capable of renewing its repertoire without breaking the emotional bond that sustains it.
