Biography of Bicep
The Origins of Bicep: From a Blog to the Dancefloor
Bicep is an acclaimed electronic music duo originally from Belfast, Northern Ireland, founded in 2009 by childhood friends Andrew Ferguson and Matthew McBriar. Their story is one of the most unique within the contemporary music scene, as they did not start by producing tracks directly, but by creating a music blog called 'Feel My Bicep'. This digital space was born as a repository where both shared lost and forgotten gems of Disco, Chicago House, Detroit Techno, and Italo Disco. Over time, the blog accumulated a huge legion of followers, attracting more than 100,000 monthly visitors and becoming an essential reference and curation source for audiophiles and DJs around the world. Their iconic logo, a tricep designed by Matt himself, quickly transformed into a symbol of quality within the underground environment.
Sonic Evolution and Global Success
The leap from the digital world to physical stages was a natural step. After moving to London, the duo began DJing and producing their own music, reflecting the eclecticism that characterized them. During the 2010s, they released a series of EPs and singles that caught the industry's attention, culminating in 2017 with their self-titled debut album, 'Bicep', released through the prestigious label Ninja Tune. Tracks like 'Glue' and 'Aura' became instant anthems, managing to capture the nostalgia of the golden age of British rave in the 90s and fusing it with impeccable, modern production. The combination of powerful breaks, melancholic melodies, and immersive synthesizers defined the characteristic sound that catapulted them to global stardom.
Consecration and Live Shows
In January 2021, Bicep reaffirmed their status as heavyweights of electronic music with the release of their second studio album, 'Isles', which reached number 2 on the official UK charts and earned them two nominations for the prestigious BRIT Awards. Their impressive Live AV shows have become legendary immersive experiences, combining their powerful musical catalog with spectacular visual productions and cutting-edge lighting. They have managed to sell out massive venues like Alexandra Palace or Printworks in London in a matter of minutes, and have headlined the most important stages of iconic festivals like Glastonbury and Coachella.
The CHROMA Project and Current Legacy
Far from stagnating, Bicep has continued to push the boundaries of their creativity. They have recently launched the ambitious audiovisual project and record label CHROMA, with which they seek to explore an even darker aesthetic, focused purely on the dancefloor and club culture. Despite personal challenges along the way, the duo has not slowed their enormous influence. Currently represented by renowned agencies like Higher Ground, Bicep has consolidated an indisputable legacy: they managed to transform a sincere passion for rescuing old vinyl into a global mass phenomenon, redefining with each step the present and future of electronic music.
