The euphoric house of the steel city

On the dancefloors of Adonis and the airwaves of Rinse FM, Nyra has turned club house into a matter of euphoria, persistent basslines, and infectious samples. Born in Sheffield and based in London, he carries the heritage of a city defined by Warp, The Human League, and nights like Bed, Gatecrasher, or Niche. He learned to DJ at sixteen, using Stanton gear bought with money his uncle left him, and from there he moved to the booth and into promotion.

Downlo, the pedal, and the return to London

With the warehouse party Downlo, he brought names like Ben UFO, Steffi, Baby Ford, or Efdemin to Sheffield, and that scene eventually paved the way for Hope Works. In the early 2010s, he put his records aside to compete as a professional cyclist in the UK; he finished third in the Yorkshire Championship and, after about five years, returned to music by settling in London. The hiatus didn't dull his ear: what he produces today still smells of disco, Belgian rave, garage, and dancefloor techno, with 808 and 909 drum machines as the foundation.

Canoe as a logbook

In October 2016, he founded Canoe, initially on limited, hand-stamped vinyl, intended as a platform for his own catalog alongside Oushe. The label now exceeds twenty-five releases and functions as a club diary: house, electro, breakbeat, and vocal cuts that can be chained together for an entire night. Outside of his own label, he has released on Secretsundaze, Gudu Records, Domino, Jennifer Cardini's Correspondant, and SMIILE Records, where his collaborations with Chloé Caillet—including Last One For Today—made it into DJ Mag's best tracks of 2024. He also signed the first EP for Adonis Records with Wilson Phoenix and has received support from Peggy Gou, Ricardo Villalobos, Young Marco, Job Jobse, Palms Trax, The Blessed Madonna, Laurent Garnier, Pete Tong, or Chris Stussy. In 2024, he was nominated for Producer of the Year at DJ Mag's Best of British awards.

Boiler Room, Fabric, and the dancefloor today

He has played three times for Boiler Room, closed Room 1 at Fabric, and performed multiple times at Block9 at Glastonbury. His circuit includes Circoloco at DC10, Sónar, ADE, Shelter Amsterdam, Sisyphos, Pikes and Pacha in Ibiza, Blitz Munich, Lost Village, or Phonox. Mixes for BBC Radio 1, NTS, Crack Magazine, Kiosk Radio, and Circoloco Radio complete the portrait of a DJ with a broad repertoire. Outside the dancefloor, he has curated music for Flatlist at Copenhagen Fashion Week, Studio Second Best x Puma, and Richie Culver's exhibition The Builder's Daughter, with syncs for Hugo Boss, Miu Miu, H&M, or the Canoe x LN-CC collaboration. Today, he remains at the helm of Canoe—with cuts like Call Me Niche, Park Hill Party, or Steel City Vibes—and his residency at Adonis, with a sound that continues to make the dancefloor a place to smile.
