Origins and Early Years

Born in New York City, United States, on July 14, 1988, Francis Mercier is an acclaimed DJ and producer. Although born in North America, his family moved almost immediately to Port-au-Prince, Haiti, where he spent his entire childhood and adolescence. Growing up on the island exposed him to a rich amalgam of cultures and sounds, from Jamaican reggae and traditional kompa music to Haitian rap and the electronic rhythms of legends like Tiësto. At 18, he returned to the United States to study Applied Mathematics at the prestigious Brown University (Ivy League). It was there that he began working as a DJ at college parties, combining his sharp analytical intellect with his passion for music production, and starting to perform in the vibrant New York scene during the Weekends.

Rise in the Electronic Scene

Francis Mercier's beginnings in the competitive New York circuit required great perseverance, playing in small bars and organizing his own events to make a name for himself. His first digital release arrived in 2013, progressively evolving his sound towards Afro House and Deep House. In 2014-2015, he channeled his entrepreneurial vision by co-founding Deep Root Records, an influential independent record label focused on empowering multicultural talent, which would later expand with successful sub-labels like Deep Root Tribe. His ability to fuse African percussion, deep basslines, and emotive melodies earned him a unique space in the global scene. Additionally, he uses the alias Emvafaya for his deeper and more melodic productions.

Consolidation and International Success

The major turning point of his career occurred in 2021 and 2022. His reinterpretation of the classic 'Premier Gaou' alongside Magic System and Nitefreak, and above all his acclaimed track 'Sete' with BLOND:ISH and the African duo Amadou & Mariam under Insomniac Records, catapulted him into the elite. 'Sete' reached the overall Top 2 on Beatport and entered the viral charts on Spotify. Since then, he has accumulated tens of millions of streams and collaborated with figures such as Diplo, Black Uhuru, HUGEL, and Kiesza. His event brand Solèy (which means sun in Haitian Creole) has led him to have iconic residencies at Ibiza clubs like Hï Ibiza and Chinois, and to perform on global stages such as Coachella, Tomorrowland, EDC Las Vegas, Burning Man, and in front of the historic Pyramids of Giza in Egypt.
