In the booth at Escape, a staple of Dutch house

Since 2005, the dancefloor at Escape Amsterdam has had a recognizable signature: Frederik Abas. At the largest nightclub in the Netherlands, he has held Saturday residencies and, for years, the Sundays at Shape, the warm and funky house series with Latin tinges that he shared with Santito. His DJing style—energetic, danceable house and tech house that never loses its underground pulse—has placed him alongside names like Tiësto, Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano, Don Diablo, Quintino, or Sidney Samson. In December 2006, Tiësto personally invited him for a three-and-a-half-hour set of club house and tech house at his own event: a milestone that continues to define his career.

Haarlem, Loveland, and the circuit that never fades

Born in Haarlem in 1974, he was shaped by listening to DJ Marcello and Dimitri Kneppers and frequenting the Roxy in Amsterdam. At sixteen, he worked as a light and sound technician for drive-in shows; in 1993, he began DJing at student parties and weddings. The serious leap came in 1994 with Loveland at the Beverwijk fair, and with nights like T-Dansant and Fire, where he crossed paths with pioneers like Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson. Then came Jimmy Woo (since 2006), Bloomingdale (since 2007, with Roog, Gregor Salto, or Lucien Foort), and the Hed Kandi dates in Amsterdam, The Hague, and Rotterdam. He has been a resident in Rio de Janeiro and has toured in Curaçao—his first international destination, alongside Marnix, founder of Loveland—Ibiza, Los Angeles, Mexico, Thailand, Singapore, Dubai, or Lagos. At major Dutch gatherings—eight years at Loveland Festival, plus Dancevalley and Mysteryland—his booth energy became his hallmark.

Flight Records: the producer who turned aviation into a label

Abas's father was a KLM pilot and he himself dreamed of flying; that passion gives its name to Flight Records, the independent label he runs, and to Flights, his monthly show of house, tech house, and underground sounds. As a producer, active since 2009, he has reached the top 10 on Beatport and Traxsource. Wild, with Alicia Madison, was track of the week on Protocol Radio by Nicky Romero; he has also collaborated with Nathan Brumley, Luca Debonaire, POINT BLVNK, and Alexander Koning, the latter on Driving Kims Car (2026, Suppressed Energy). In 2024, he celebrated three decades as a DJ. The recent catalog on Flight Records—The Groove, Some Fun, The Rhythm, Set You Free, The Time Is Now, Arpoador, Latin Night—confirms an energetic house, raw electro, progressive, and afrohouse sound, designed for the dancefloor and ready for takeoff.
