Joel Thomas Zimmerman, known worldwide under his iconic alias deadmau5, was born on January 5, 1981, in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. From a young age, he showed a huge interest in computing and technology. In the late 90s, he began experimenting with music production. His peculiar stage name deadmau5 (pronounced dead mouse) was born from a curious anecdote: upon noticing a strange smell, he opened his computer and found a dead mouse. In internet chat rooms, he began using the nickname the dead mouse guy, which he shortened to deadmau5 due to the character limitations of the IRC platform.

Rise to Stardom and the Mau5head

His true international breakthrough came in 2008 with the release of his acclaimed album Random Album Title, which included timeless hits like Faxing Berlin and his legendary collaboration with Kaskade on I Remember.
