Osama, the track that opened the map

In September 2021, Osama, Kasango's collaboration with Grammy winner Zakes Bantwini, hit number 1 on the South African radio charts and stayed there for twelve consecutive weeks. The track, released on the Ghetto King album, received the Essential New Tune from Pete Tong on BBC Radio 1, was featured among the songs of the year by DJ Mag, and in 2022, it won Best Collaboration and the SAMRO award for most radio airplay at the South African Music Awards. That pulse of Afro House—choral, percussive, and dancefloor-oriented—placed the producer from Welkom on the international circuit.

The Black Coffee moment and the Soul Candi school

The turning point came in 2009, when he saw Black Coffee perform in his hometown and decided that his place was behind the booth. At sixteen, he was already collecting house vinyls, inspired by South African names like DJ Kent. In 2010, he trained in Advanced Music Production and Music Business at the Soul Candi Institute of Music, alongside peers like Cuebur and Shimza; today he is an instructor at that same school. His debut One Night (2020, Madorasindahouse Records) had already been played on Black Coffee's 2019 Appreciation Mix and opened a catalog that crosses house, afro house, and melodic house, with collaborations alongside DJEFF, Citizen Deep, Nico De Andrea, Vanco, FKA Mash, Euphonik, and Dennis Ferrer.

Ones to Watch, Fire Fire and KASA MUSIC

DJ Mag chose him as one of their Ones to Watch in 2022 and commissioned a one-hour mix for their residency on Radio 1 Dance. Closer also appeared among Mixmag's songs of the year. In November 2024, Tong marked another Essential New Tune for him, this time for his remix of the London band TMPLE. In 2025, Fire Fire, with Shimza and AR/CO, became one of the hits of the summer and surpassed thirty million streams in its first four months; in 2026, the track won Song of the Year at the Miami Electronic Dance Music Awards. In that same cycle, he launched his label KASA MUSIC and released Surrender on Cercle Records, alongside Kintar, Benji, and Kyozo.

From Blue Marlin to Defected, a truly global DJ

Represented by Red Light Management, Kasango has reached over 120 dates in a year, with concerts on every continent and documented sessions at Blue Marlin Ibiza, Chinois for Soley, Hï Ibiza, and the Live from The Basement series at Defected Broadcasting House. His show House Bound concentrates that booth vision: rhythm, soul, and connection, based in Johannesburg with a permanent foot in contemporary African house.
