African tension for the global club

African-rooted percussion, long melodic lines, and a very physical reading of the dancefloor have made Nitefreak one of the most visible Zimbabwean figures within contemporary afro house. Born in Bulawayo and raised in the Barbourfields area, he began his journey in 2009 as a self-taught DJ and producer, first building instrumentals and later developing his own language between house, afro-tech, and progressive textures. His music avoids superficial folklorism: he works with tribal pulse, organic vocals, and club pressure with clean production, designed for both open sessions and large stages.

From the local circuit to the international radar

The leap in scale came with the remix of Premier Gaou, signed alongside Francis Mercier on the Magic System classic. Released by Spinnin’ Deep, the track expanded his international exposure and ended up certified as a gold record in France by SNEP. From there, Nitefreak consolidated a close relationship with Deep Root Records and with Mercier, while simultaneously placing his name on labels and platforms such as Higher Ground, Insomniac Records, MoBlack Records, Grooveland Africa, Deep Root Tribe, and Tomorrowland Music. His catalog includes pieces such as Hinde, Kamili, Pesa Esengo, Ike Onu, Gorah, Asara, Savior, Not The Same, Maithori, and Mulalo, in addition to remixes for artists such as BLOND:ISH, Amadou & Mariam, Hyenah, and Afrojack.

A sound backed by major names

His rise has been accompanied by support from Black Coffee, Diplo, Keinemusik, Solomun, Gorgon City, Nora En Pure, Pete Tong, ODESZA, and Vintage Culture, and by presence on Spotify and Apple Music editorial playlists linked to house and African electronic music. Nitefreak’s profile has also been reinforced on Beatport, where he has reached high positions in the afro house category, and in the long session circuit, with sets published from Miami, New York, Paris, Lisbon, Bulawayo, Harare, Mauritius, MOGA Essaouira, and Hï Ibiza. In 2023, he was recognized at the Roil Bulawayo Arts Awards with awards for Outstanding Club DJ, Song of the Year, and Outstanding Ambassador, a reflection of his impact outside and inside Zimbabwe.

Afroholic as a declaration of independence

The creation of Afroholic Records opened a more autonomous stage. The label debuted with Masterclass, a collaboration with Roland Clark, and functions as a platform to promote raw, melodic afro house connected with new voices. In parallel, Nitefreak continues to perform at international clubs and festivals while maintaining the link to the African scene that marked his identity. His current position is that of a producer capable of translating roots, melody, and dancefloor energy into a global language without losing the Bulawayo accent.
