Sven Väth

The Beginnings and the Techno Revolution in Germany

Sven Väth was born on October 26, 1964, in Offenbach am Main, in the Hesse region of Germany. From his youth in Obertshausen, he soaked up the musical atmosphere in the family pub. His career took off in 1982 when he became a resident at the Dorian Gray club in Frankfurt, where he introduced innovative rhythms to the German scene. In 1986, he achieved worldwide fame as the leader of the OFF project, whose overwhelming success 'Electrica Salsa' crowned him as a European electronic pop star, before he definitively dedicated himself to more avant-garde currents.

The Founding of Omen, Eye Q, and Harthouse

Far from settling for commercial success, Sven Väth embraced the acid house and techno movements. In 1988, he co-founded the legendary Omen club in Frankfurt, which stood for a decade as the undisputed epicenter of club culture in Germany. In the early nineties, he founded the influential labels Eye Q Records and Harthouse, essential platforms for the global development of trance and techno. In addition, he released acclaimed and revolutionary conceptual albums such as 'Accident in Paradise' (1992) and 'The Harlequin, The Robot, and The Ballet-Dancer' (1994), cementing his status as a musical visionary.

The Cocoon Empire and the Legacy in Ibiza

1996 marked the birth of Cocoon, an integral project that brought together the Cocoon Artist Booking agency, the event promoter, and the Cocoon Recordings label. In 1999, he began the legendary Cocoon Ibiza residencies at the Amnesia nightclub. This risky bet changed the history of the white island, pioneering the introduction of underground techno and minimal techno in an environment dominated by commercial British trance. For more than twenty years, Monday nights set an unparalleled standard of musical quality, catapulting the careers of countless titans of the current electronic industry.

Champion of Vinyl and Cultural Recognition

Known worldwide as 'Papa Sven', Väth has been awarded three times at the DJ Awards and received the Goethe Medal of Frankfurt in 2015 for his immense contribution to the city's culture. Throughout his massive career, he has maintained an unwavering defense of vinyl, DJing exclusively with physical records in massive marathon sets. After releasing his studio album 'Catharsis' in 2022, Sven Väth remains the undisputed leader of the electronic movement, headlining festivals like Time Warp and spreading his inexhaustible energy all over the world.
