SATYA and the dancefloor as a long-form narrative

In Lisbon, YokoO's sets unfold unhurriedly: deep grooves, hypnotic textures, and minimal house that treats the dancefloor as a long-form narrative. Founder of the vinyl label SATYA—truth, in Sanskrit, and one of the yoga principles that runs through his work—he has turned curation into a craft as central as DJing. At the club Rūmu, he holds a monthly residency where deep house, minimal house, and restrained techno are extended in a storytelling format, far from the three-minute cut.

Afterhours in Sydney, booth school

Originally from Habsheim, in eastern France, he started as a record collector in his teens. In 2006, he moved to Australia: first to the Sunshine Coast, where he studied international business; then to Brisbane, where the deep house of 2008 and marathon residencies set his course; and later to Sydney, immersed in Reckless Republic and the Sunday afterhours at SPICE, an underground institution he still mentions as one of the most intense periods of his life behind the booth. In 2014, he moved to Berlin; the need for the sea and a more livable environment for artists later led him to Lisbon, where he resides, produces, and runs the label.

Pachamama, All Day I Dream and Burning Man

His early catalog passed through Musik Gewinnt Freunde, Moodmusic, Plastic City, or Affin. The international leap came with Pachamama on Kindisch (Get Physical), Euneirophrenia and Magnetic Souls on All Day I Dream—alongside Retza and in the orbit of Lee Burridge—and Jivanmuktih on Rebellion, the sub-label of Crosstown Rebels. The album Nothing Can Compare (2019) consolidated that stage. He has played in Europe, America, Asia, and Australia; at Burning Man 2015, he debuted at White Ocean during peak hours, between Matthew Jonson and the back-to-back of Jamie Jones with Dyed Soundorom, and returned to the beach with Robot Heart. The circuit also took him to events like SXM Festival and his first headlining show in New York with Gray Area.

Lisbon, Toka Musik and the current pulse

In 2021, he opened SATYA with a first collective vinyl alongside Matthew Dekay, Zone+ and Retza. The catalog has grown in vinyl and digital, with his own collaborations with Atish, Haider Uppal or Bobi Stevkovski. In 2026, he took over as A&R director of Toka Musik, a label with roots in Lebanon and Dubai, and marked that stage with the EP Ortus. Today, he divides his time between the Lisbon studio, the residency at Rūmu, label nights, and a more selective international schedule: less constant touring, more criteria, the same hypnotic pulse.
