The change of scale at Otero

Leaving the joint on Martínez Vigil street wasn't just a rebrand: it was a change of body. Those who knew the first Gong Galaxy Club remember a small, claustrophobic space, with immediate decibels and rock and roll sweat. Relocated to the Otero industrial estate, on Julián Cañedo street, the venue gained high ceilings, a clearer dance floor, and a format designed for concerts. A ten-minute walk from the Campillín gardens and the historic center, the venue set up next to Lata de Zinc and turned that peripheral warehouse into a cultural hub far from downtown nightlife.

Live music and electronic in the same box

Today it presents itself as a live music venue and electronic club. The stage hosts rock, garage, hardcore, metal, and punk, but also trap, urban, hyperpop, psychedelia, or afrobeat. When the night turns into a session, the floor opens up to techno, trance, house, acid, and the rest of the electronic spectrum. It is not a nightclub with a fixed lineup or a seasonal theater: it is a venue that alternates tours, local bands, and club nights in the same box.

A capacity of 249 and a line array PA

The legal capacity is 249 people, guests included. The stage measures 5.72 by 4.70 meters, there is a dressing room with direct access to the stage, and the venue is adapted for reduced mobility, with no steps at the entrance. The PA system is a stereo Unka line array of 12,000 W, with 18-inch IKS18 subwoofers, the box pro monitors, and a Midas M32R Live console. For club nights, platforms are set up and a DJ booth can be assembled with Pioneer CDJs and Technics turntables. The dance floor, the bar, the disco ball, and the LED truss describe a compact, single-nave venue, designed to look at the stage and dance on the same floor.

A circuit venue, not a showcase

In recent years, Gong has become one of the meeting points for the small format in Asturias. Extreme metal, punk, indie, experimental electronic, and labels like Humo Internacional have used the venue as a stopover. Totengott presented Beyond the Veil at home in 2024; Repugnance returned in 2025 after a quarter of a century. The programming changes every week and the schedule too: concert doors usually open at 20:30 and the rest depends on each date. The Gong in Otero does not compete in volume with the large venues of the north; it competes in continuity, with the same name that was already heard on Martínez Vigil and with a floor where live music and clubbing now fit.
