The hut that withstands the change in Kuta

In Kuta, Lombok, the surfers' night still revolves around an open hut, with a thatched roof, a bamboo structure, and a bar facing the street. The name Surfers Bar is still painted there, in a town that the development of Mandalika has surrounded with resorts while the original houses remain. The venue was already part of that surf and bar life in 2015, and in 2026 it remains open, with music and parties announced on its social media.

It operates as a bar and restaurant: a semi-open club, with tables outside and a short distance between the bar and the street. It is located on Jalan Raya Kuta, in the heart of the town, a short walk from the market. The house is run by a local family. The bar is still associated with the Bong and Wona brothers, with their mother and sister in the same circle. The service is that of a local bar, where the returning surfer and the one who just arrived share the same table.

Reggae on Thursday, DJ when the night grows

The programming mixes reggae, local bands, and DJ sets, depending on the day. Thursdays function as a reggae night, with local bands and a fire show; Saturdays host the biggest party, with a DJ and dancing in the open air. At sunset, the tone drops: the bar serves as a meeting point before the volume rises after nine. In February 2026, the venue highlighted a Kuta Friday on its Instagram, and for New Year's Eve, it announced DJ sets all night, happy hour from 18:00 to 22:00, and free entry, cash only.

There are recordings that allow you to hear the dance floor when it fills up. In March 2022, a twenty-minute tech house Friday was filmed inside the Surfer Bar in Mandalika. In June 2021, another Friday party with DJ Ari was located in Kuta Mandalika. Electronic music appears mainly on Fridays and Saturdays, within a mix that continues to rely on reggae, live covers, and the DJ on duty.

Bar by day, small dance floor by night

The published hours are 09:00 to 01:00, every day. In the morning and afternoon, it is a local bar; after dark, it can become Kuta's small dance floor. In November 2021, when bars in the area were opening in shifts, a Friday still brought together foreign visitors and locals around a DJ. What defines the place is that semi-open room, the thatched roof, and a night that fits into a single bar.
