La Almudena as a dance floor backdrop

Right next to the Cuesta de la Vega, Terraza Atenas doesn't confine the night within four walls: it opens it up over the Parque de Atenas, at the foot of the Catedral de la Almudena and a stone's throw from Madrid Río. The circular kiosk, with the letters ATENAS on the glass, functions as both a bar and a DJ booth; the crowd is spread out between high tables, a wooden pergola, tiered seating, and the park's lawn. The silhouette of the Royal Palace and the illuminated dome serve as a backdrop. What looks like a summer beach bar behaves, once the sun goes down, as an open air spot for drinks, house music, and afternoon sessions in the heart of the city.

A 2001 kiosk on the riverbank

The venue emerged in 2001, when the old kiosks on the banks of the Manzanares had already disappeared—and with them El Dado, in the same park. The new kiosk, with its contemporary design, was set up next to the slope and changed the tone: by day, a neighborhood aperitif spot; by night, lounge and house with speakers facing the gardens of the Campo del Moro. In 2004, the City Council even intervened due to the volume and elements—screens, bar, speakers—that exceeded the beverage kiosk license. That contradiction, municipal kiosk and open-air club, continues to define the place: it is not a concrete nightclub, it is a park venue that fills up to capacity.

Amphitheater, pool, and cocktail bar

The physical space is the story. There is a bar pavilion, umbrellas, a pergola, and wooden tiered seating like an amphitheater, inspired by Miami terraces, where people sit on various levels. A mini pool allows you to dip your feet while your drink is served. Waiters cross the garden with drinks; there are no indoor rooms to inventory. The menu revolves around cocktails and a wide selection of gin-tonics, with vermouth, spritz, and snacks. The venue accepts group reservations and is rented out for events, always within the park's perimeter.

House, chill out, and electronic afternoon sessions

Electronic music is the other driving force. Since the first summers, house and lounge have played until closing; later, the lawn has hosted afternoon sessions and deep house parties. Promoters and crews like After Brunch—with DJs such as Torrione, Luchino, or Maik Miroux—and Promised Wax have used the venue as a dance floor at sunset, with limited capacity. It is not the brand of those parties: it is the venue where the park turns into a club. Today it operates in the summer season, from May to the end of September, every day, from 11:00 to 02:00, opposite La Riviera and the Puente de Segovia.
