Palacé, between workshops and a coffee roastery

In the Perpetuo Socorro, Medellín's creative district, a three-story industrial building on Carrera 50—the Palacé—with Calle 34 stopped being just a coffee roastery with a rented terrace. Óscar Vásquez and Camilo Vandel were looking in 2023 for a stable roof for their party Bien bueno and found it in La Fábrica, which already occupied the ground floor. Upstairs there was a coworking space; the rooftop was rented out at times. One night it worked and the coffee shop owners proposed partnering to take over the property. On January 27, 2024, the venue opened with a joint session by Merino and Verraco, with Montes supporting. That inauguration was announced with a capacity of 250 people; since then the venue has added floors and uses, always with the coffee shop as a neighbor on the ground floor.

The house is read today in three bodies. The Terrace concentrates reggaeton, city views, and open-air sessions; the Center Room is the heart of electronics, house, and techno; the Patio hosts salsa, orchestras, and vinyl. Unified tickets give access to the three rooms, with capacity limited by space. Each activity goes through curation: there is no single dance floor that solves everything. The building remains half-dressed, with gray walls and a warehouse look, because Vásquez insists on not turning it into a fashion aesthetic, but into a space that adapts to each party.

Speaking again to those who live in Medellín

The resident Vandel defined the difference: a broad spectrum, not limited to house and techno, with room for Latin rhythms and other drifts, aimed at those who live in the city and the community that built its scene. In February 2024 Jane Fitz debuted in Colombia on this dance floor; later Pangaea, Secret Sundaze, Nicola Cruz, Discos Esmeralda, and Move have passed through. The project, which started between three collectives, now adds more than twenty partners and is managed by Daniel Uribe. There is a party from Thursday to Saturday—and Sunday if there is programming—, workshops and talks under the name Buenas Prácticas, record and brand launches, and a Feid Coffee Party. Bad Bunny appeared incognito to eat tripletas after his tour. 50 | 50 describes itself as a center for dance, culture, and reflection: a house for the itinerant, finally anchored to a physical venue in Palacé.
