Fifty-four, like the hotel

The Roman numerals of LIV are equivalent to 54: the year the Fontainebleau in Miami Beach opened and a nod to Studio 54. The venue inherits the volume of the Tropigala Lounge, the room known as La Ronde Room, where Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Sammy Davis Jr., or Tony Bennett performed. In 2008, during the hotel's renovation, David Grutman opened the club with the Victoria’s Secret fashion show. The premiere remained anchored to the marble lobby: a stable physical venue, with a megaclub-scale dancefloor, in South Beach.

The dome and The Spider

The signature of the space is the dome. Whoever photographs it knows where they are. In 2017, the club closed for almost nine weeks—it had never done so before—for a ten-million-dollar renovation. ICRAVE reorganized the interior and SJ Lighting built The Spider: a seven-armed steel lattice with more than 400 kinetic LED screens, video columns down to the dancefloor, and video mapping over the stage. The staircase splits in two and leaves the booth in the center; upstairs there are six skyboxes and fifty table service banquettes. Two floors, four bars, and a mezzanine that can become a stage turn the room into a club theater.

LIV on Sunday and headlining electronic music

The programming was never dogmatic. Large-format EDM coexists with hip-hop and open-format nights. Tiësto, Steve Aoki, Skrillex, Alesso, John Summit, Adriatique, PAWSA, or Black Coffee have passed through the dancefloor. Sunday, LIV on Sunday, became a rap rite in Miami: Meek Mill wrote it down in "Amen" and Lil Wayne was the first name in that night's hall of fame. It is not an underground basement; it is the megaclub of Miami Beach, with a strict door and a dancefloor that behaves like a concert.

The L Series and the machine in motion

In 2024, LIV became the first nightclub in the world to install L-Acoustics L Series, with L2D arrays over the dancefloor and KS28 subwoofers. Live Nation took 51% of Groot Hospitality in 2019. During the pandemic, the club preferred not to open at half capacity when Miami Beach cut capacity and hours. Today it operates from Thursday to Sunday, from 11:00 PM to 5:00 AM, at 4441 Collins Avenue, inside the Fontainebleau, and remains in the Top 100 Clubs of DJ Mag.
