The bat that returned to Pinedo

The bat of the Carrera del Riu is not just a logo: it is one of the most persistent images of the Valencian night. Spook Club was born in 1984 in the space of the old San Francisco nightclub and soon adopted the historical name of Spook Factory, a central reference in the expansion of electronic music around Valencia. Its location in Pinedo, on the axis that connected the city with the El Saler highway, placed it within the physical and emotional map of the Ruta del Bakalao, where venues like Barraca, Chocolate, Puzzle, or ACTV formed a network of nocturnal pilgrimage that transformed Spanish youth culture.

Four zones for a long night

The current stage preserves the memory of the club, but organizes it as a multi-space venue. The Spook/Main acts as the main room, with direct access to the Garden and two bars; The Cube functions as a second annex room; the Garden provides rest, meeting, food trucks, and a pool; and Sunbox introduces a more intimate area with a terrace and views of the Mediterranean. This configuration allows for alternating high-pressure sessions, outdoor stretches, and afternoon or sunrise formats without losing the feeling of a large club. The Void Acoustics Incubus system reinforces that new physical reading of the room, with a very recognizable sound and visual presence in the booth.

From the route avant-garde to current techno

Spook made history by defending club music when the vocabulary of the Spanish dance floor was still in formation. In the 80s and 90s, it absorbed new wave, EBM, European electronics, early techno, dark sounds, and the imagery of the Valencian sound. Its legend is also linked to DJs and prescribers who gave identity to the room, with Fran Lenaers as one of the fundamental names of that first era. The reopening of April 2023 resumed that heritage from a contemporary language: techno, tech house, hard techno, electro, ghetto, acid, and advanced club sounds appear in a program that combines international artists, current promoters, and the local scene.

Reopening, residents, and community

The continuity of Spook is supported by a new generation of residents and collaborators. Names like DJ Badtrip, Everynation, Finalversion3, Lucía Gea, Ariezzz, Biondo, or Stroc connect the club with different layers of Valencian electronics, from industrial techno to deconstructed club, bass, or the most direct energy of the dance floor. The club's internal phrase, "here you don't dance, you fly," summarizes its identity well: a mix of memory, Saturday ritual, renewed production, and intergenerational audience. Spook remains active as a physical venue, with regular programming, advance tickets, custom events, and a singular position within Spanish club culture: it does not function as a simple homage to the Route, but as a room that tries to make nocturnal heritage and the electronic present coexist.
