The edge of metal next to São Bento

A stone's throw from the São Bento station, Gare in Porto has become one of the most cited techno clubs in Portugal: a dark room, a powerful system, and a lineup that looks towards Europe without losing its local pulse. In that booth, Amulador builds deep and rolling sets, anchored in the minimalism of the 90s and 2000s. He does not seek effusive gestures or the spotlight of a star DJ: he gives the prominence to the speakers and proposes a journey to close your eyes and follow the thread of the night. The alias evokes the Portuguese knife grinder; the friction of metal against blades is, for him, the sonic bridge to techno.

From the vinyl shop to Freshkitos

He started DJing in 2001 with vinyl only and even owned a record store in Porto between 2001 and 2005. With the arrival of digital, he closed the shop, studied sound engineering in Barcelona, and realized that the studio was not his terrain: he returned to open Gare in 2008 together with Gustavo Pereira. With him, he has formed the duo Freshkitos since 2004, born in the afterhours of Maré Alta and consolidated with an all-night set at Indústria in 2007. The duo became a Portuguese reference, with dates at Neopop, Sudoeste, and clubs in Barcelona, London, Berlin, Lyon, or Geneva. Amulador is the most personal path of that history: deep techno, ambient, electro, and tech house, without being pigeonholed.

All-night, Asia, and the current map

On his own dancefloor, he cultivates the warm-up at lower BPMs—watching the audience enter and making them wait a little—and reserves the all-night sets of seven to ten hours for special dates; in May 2024, he documented almost seven hours straight at Gare. He has been through Sónar Lisboa, Neopop and Life After Pop, Vinculum, Boom, Festival Forte, Up To Date, Brunch Electronik in Lisbon, and the Alinea A nights. In 2024, he toured Asia—Japan, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Macau, and Hong Kong—and in 2025 he played in Seoul and signed the 318th chapter of Monument, lasting over an hour and a half. He continues as a resident and the soul of Gare, with guests from the international hypnotic scene, and as one of the most constant presences in Portuguese deep techno.
