David Mallada

An Asturian shaped by club culture

David Mallada is a DJ and producer born in Oviedo, a veteran figure of the Asturian electronic scene and one of the names associated with the growth of techno in northern Spain. His relationship with dance music was formed in his adolescence: at 13 years old he began collecting vinyl by Kraftwerk, New Order, Depeche Mode and Liaisons Dangereuses, and in 1995 he made direct contact with the turntables. That learning process coincided with an Asturias where acid, trance, house and techno were beginning to occupy landmark clubs.

Wide booth, industrial memory and open dancefloor

His first residencies and appearances took place in venues such as Paralelo in Pola de Lena, FM, Babys, La Real in Oviedo, La Fábrica and Teatro Albéniz in Gijón. From that circuit, he began building an identity difficult to pin down with a single label: he can move through techno, tech house, deep house, electro, disco or the Detroit sound without losing coherence. That versatility, understood as reading the dancefloor rather than simple eclecticism, is one of the keys to his reputation as a selector.

The dawn of Aquasella and national projection

The great turning point in his career came at the eleventh edition of Aquasella, with a sunrise set remembered by the festival audience. From there, his entry into Peacock Deejay Agency projected him towards larger venues and festivals, with appearances at events such as Klubbers Day, Technoflash, Hebbven Live, F.A.M.A., Fabrik, Pagoa and Sonora, as well as performances in the United Kingdom. His bond with Aquasella has been maintained over the years and continues to be a central part of his artistic history.

Not Play Records and the landscape of Los Cuetos

Together with Aída Blanco he launched Not Play Records, a label oriented towards techno and a platform for his own releases. In 2025 he released Los Cuetos, an eleven-track album inspired by Gozón, its beaches, cliffs and iconic places, where he translates the Asturian landscape into hypnotic, atmospheric and energetic techno. With more than three decades of experience between the booth and the studio, David Mallada maintains a solid position within Spanish electronic music: an artist with Asturian roots, long-standing craft and an open vision, capable of connecting club memory, local identity and contemporary pulse.
