From Anklam to the Berlin nightlife pulse

Dixon is the alias of Steffen Berkhahn, a German DJ, producer, curator, and cultural entrepreneur born in Anklam and artistically trained in East Berlin. Before becoming a central figure in European electronic music, his youth was linked to sports, with aspirations in football and athletics that were left behind due to an injury. In the early 90s, he began to build his language in Berlin booths like Turbine, Tresor, E-Werk, and WMF, where long sessions and his residency alongside Mitja Prinz were decisive in defining a way of DJing based on tension, patience, and storytelling.

The art of narrating the dancefloor

His sound is situated between house, deep house, techno, and melodic electronica, always with an elegant and dramatic sensibility. Dixon has not based his reputation on an abundant discography, but on a very personal way of ordering music, creating transitions, and turning the session into an emotional narrative. That approach is recognized in mixes like Body Language Vol. 4, Temporary Secretary, The Grandfather Paradox alongside Henrik Schwarz and Âme, and Live At Robert Johnson Vol. 8. He has also developed a highly valued identity as a remixer and editor, with works for Femi Kuti, The xx, Disclosure, Depeche Mode, LCD Soundsystem, Kelsey Lu, and Flight Facilities.

Innervisions as its own universe

In 2005 he founded Innervisions together with Kristian Rädle and Frank Wiedemann of Âme, a label that ended up becoming one of the most influential institutions of contemporary house and techno. From that platform, he promoted a refined, emotional, and cosmopolitan club aesthetic, later expanded with Muting The Noise, the Lost In A Moment events, and the Temporary Secretary agency. His impact was reflected in the Resident Advisor poll, where he was voted number one Top DJ for four consecutive years, from 2013 to 2016.

Beyond the traditional DJ

Dixon has taken his vision into the territories of fashion, technology, and digital art. In 2017 he co-founded Together We Dance Alone and later developed Transmoderna, a project that unites electronic music, immersive installations, virtual aesthetics, and club culture. That expansion has passed through spaces like Printworks London, NXT Museum Amsterdam, ArtsDistrict Brooklyn, Fondation Beyeler, and Centre Pompidou Metz. In the booth, he maintains a presence on stages like Pacha Ibiza, Berghain / Panorama Bar, DC-10, Robert Johnson, fabric, Cercle Festival, Hï Ibiza, Innervisions New York, and Lost Village, consolidating a figure that continues to set the standard for the DJ as a narrator, curator, and architect of community.
