Between elegant house, nu-disco, and a travel-inspired sensibility born from decades of club culture, GARZA occupies a unique place within American electronic music. His solo work expands the universe he helped build as a founding half of Thievery Corporation, but shifts the focus toward more dancefloor-oriented productions: elastic grooves, organic bass, analog-style melodies, and a mixing style that connects downtempo, dub, and electronic pop without losing its club vocation.

The Thievery legacy brought to the booth

His career has been marked since the mid-nineties by the Washington D.C. scene and the intersection of dub, reggae, bossa nova, trip-hop, jazz, and electronic music that made Thievery Corporation an international reference. From that context, Garza developed an identity as a DJ and producer with a very broad reading of the dancefloor: less dependent on the linear beat and more interested in color, texture, and progressive tension. That breadth also appears in his remixes, where he has reinterpreted his own and others' material with an approach closer to deep house, boogie, and contemporary disco.

Magnetic Moon and the architecture of GARZA

Under the name GARZA, his catalog is articulated around Magnetic Moon Records and vocal and production collaborations that reinforce the collective character of the project. The EP Where the Moon Hides opened a phase clearly identified with this alias, followed by tracks like Deep Blue, Be My Home, and Something That’s Different, and the album Daydream Accelerator, released in 2021. That record features tracks like Summer Is Ours, Can’t Kill Me, Ocean Morning Echoes, or Letting Go, with guests such as Enemy Planes, Walker & Royce, Calica, Natalia Clavier, Stee Downes, and EMELINE.

Disco, house, and auteur electronic music

GARZA's music does not function as a simple extension of Thievery Corporation. His current personality relies on a more luminous and danceable language, close to indie dance, melodic house, and nu-disco, with arrangements that retain a penchant for cultural mixing and immersive atmosphere. His sessions have been associated with a warm, sophisticated, and worldly club aesthetic, also influenced by his activity in San Francisco and connections with venues in Playa del Carmen such as La Santanera and Canibal Royal. Altogether, GARZA represents the most nocturnal, expansive, and booth-oriented facet of a producer accustomed to moving between the underground, international live performances, and electronic music with a global vocation.
