Biography of Julian Anthony
The Zwolle groove leaves the bar
In a bar in Zwolle, without ever having touched a turntable or a CDJ before, Julian Anthony accepted his first set and learned to mix on the fly. That urgency still defines his way of DJing: he seeks the exact intersection between bass and drums. He started at age nine with a drum kit, grew up surrounded by family disco, funk, soul, and reggae, and at nineteen he landed in the house scene of Utrecht and Amsterdam, glued to Slapfunk and VBX parties.
Samuel Deep and Julian Alexander taught him how to work with vinyl. From there, he went on to open for Prunk and Chris Stussy in Amsterdam, to deep nights with Raw Equipment, and to the Tripmode collective. The sound he champions mixes funk house, garage, raw electro, and techno with a progressive edge, always with selections that are more surprising than a genre template.
Raspberry Flurry and the British booth
The track Raspberry Flurry, released on Beeyou Records, was his international key. Laidlaw signed him, and the track led him to DJ regularly in the United Kingdom: Appetite, Infuse, 93 Feet East, and Room 3 at fabric for a full night. Shanti Celeste, Gene On Earth, Enzo Siragusa, Jamie Jones, and Ingi Visions supported his productions. On Locus he signed It's Showtime; on PIV the alias JAE appeared with The Only Way.
Four years of Dungeon Meat and fever at X-Kalay
2024 closed a studio cycle: Full Moon Fever on the Berlin label X-Kalay and the EP 7 To Smoke on Dungeon Meat, minimalist house that he had kept for years. In 2025 came Missing Pieces on Fuse London. He has also released on WE_r House. He does not pursue a fixed style: he enters the studio without thinking about a label or genre and only releases what he considers a milestone in his own journey.
From Shelter to Glastonbury
2022 put him at DGTL, OFFSónar, BRET, Shelter, Hoppetosse, and on tours through Peru, Argentina, and Australia. Later came Awakenings, Wildeburg, Thuishaven, DC-10 in Ibiza, Glastonbury, and the HÖR Berlin booth. At Mixmag Lab Amsterdam he played a b2b with Mateo Dufour. He remains linked to the Amsterdam Dance Event and the Dutch scene, with booking through Meanwhile, and keeps vinyl as his first choice whenever the booth allows.
