A dance floor where the phone doesn't exist

This Never Happened didn't start as a brand: it started as a gesture. In 2016, Lane 8 asked his audience to turn off their screens so that the session would exist only there, between the body and the sound. That rule—now applied even with Yondr pouches at Red Rocks—became the axis of a label, a concert series, and one of the most loyal communities in contemporary melodic house.

From lane eight to Anjunadeep

The name comes from swimming: lane eight is for the slowest swimmer, and that was the name of the garage rock band he formed as a teenager in Palo Alto, California. From there he moved on to hip hop beats—Pete Rock, DJ Premier—and, around 2012, to a dreamy house that he himself summarized as "dreamy back rub house." A set in the empty dining room of a San Francisco pork restaurant and a streak of number ones on Hype Machine put him on Jody Wisternoff's radar. He signed with Anjunadeep in 2013. Pete Tong named him a Future Star and Dancing Astronaut included him among the 25 artists to watch in 2015. Rise, his first album (2015), with vocals from Solomon Grey, Matthew Dear, or Patrick Baker, arrived with the backing of Billboard, SPIN, and Vice.

Own records and the mixtape for every season

With Little by Little (2018) the center of gravity shifted to his label. Brightest Lights (2020), Reviver (2022), and Childish (2024) refined an emotional, often progressive deep house, with collaborations such as POLIÇA, Arctic Lake, Art School Girlfriend, Tailor, Kasablanca, and Sultan + Shepard. Childish was born from watching his children create without fear of the result. In parallel, remixes of Strobe (deadmau5), Innerbloom (RÜFÜS), or Ghost Voices (Virtual Self) expanded the circle. The spring, summer, autumn, and winter mixtapes have been a ritual for over a decade: in 2026 he even premiered them live, like the summer one recorded at The Mishawaka, in Colorado.

Ten years of This Never Happened

In 2026 the project celebrates a decade, with Cross Pollination II, sold-out nights, and a tour that continues to fill amphitheaters in the United States and Europe. He continues to appear on Anjunadeep—with tracks like Stay Still, A Little While—, but he draws the map himself: melodic house designed to be listened to with eyes open and the phone put away.
