Luke Slater was born on June 12, 1968, in Reading, Berkshire, England, and grew up in the town of Horley. From a very young age, he showed a genuine interest in music, experimenting with his father's magnetic tape recorder and playing drums in local bands. His fascination with electronic sounds led him to work in various record stores, such as the legendary Jelly Jam in Brighton, which allowed him to absorb a vast musical culture. By the late eighties, specifically in 1988, Slater was already immersed in the emerging acid house scene, starting to DJ at the iconic Heaven club in London. His eclectic style and ability to blend Detroit roots with new European currents quickly positioned him as a fundamental talent in the United Kingdom.

Diversity of Aliases and Consolidation

In the early nineties, Luke Slater began producing his own music, revealing astonishing versatility through multiple aliases. Projects like Clementine, The 7th Plain, and the legendary Planetary Assault Systems allowed him to explore different facets of electronic sound, from ambient soundscapes to the most forceful and muscular dancefloor-oriented techno. His works under the name Planetary Assault Systems, originally released on the Peacefrog label, are considered true cornerstones of British techno. During this prolific period, he signed contracts with major record labels, releasing acclaimed albums such as Freek Funk in 1997 and Wireless in 1999 through Novamute, works that broke stylistic barriers and catapulted him to international commercial recognition.

Mote-Evolver and Ostgut Ton

Seeking greater creative control and a platform to give voice to innovation, Slater founded his own record label, Mote-Evolver, in 2006. Through this label, he has released both his own productions and the works of like-minded artists who push the boundaries of the genre. Furthermore, his close relationship with the German capital led him to become the first non-German artist to release on the prestigious Berlin label Ostgut Ton, affiliated with the world-famous Berghain club. This alliance has resulted in memorable releases, demonstrating his incredible skill in manipulating frequencies and textures, and further consolidating his status in the pantheon of electronic dance music.
