According to information from internal sources cited by Billboard, the measure responds to the inability to maintain accuracy in interaction-based charts. The increase in songs generated by artificial intelligence (AI) and the use of click farms to coordinate massive streams have severely altered virality data.
During recent months, musical projects generated entirely by AI, such as Sienna Rose or the group Breaking Rust, managed to position multiple tracks on the Viral 50 charts in the United States and other territories. These incidents exposed the vulnerabilities of the Swedish platform's automated system, forcing a direct intervention to clean up the rankings.
Transition towards direct editorial control
In the absence of confirmation regarding a new metric to replace the removed charts, Spotify has redirected visibility toward playlists like "Viral Hits".
