A bassline that still fills dancefloors

The bassline of Flashdance and the chorus of Say Hello turned Deep Dish into one of the most recognizable signatures of 2000s house music. In the booth and in the studio, the Iranian-American duo from Washington D.C. bridged deep house, techno, and a pop sensibility that took them from underground clubs to the British charts and a Grammy.

Yoshitoshi, laboratory of a scene

In the early nineties, Ali "Dubfire" Shirazinia and Sharam Tayebi shaped a project that blended deep house, techno, and echoes of rock and industrial electronica. In 1994 they founded Yoshitoshi Recordings, a benchmark label for American house. Their 1995 remix of Hideaway by De'Lacy placed them on the international circuit and opened a period as remixers for Madonna, Janet Jackson, Cher, The Rolling Stones, or Everything but the Girl.

Junk Science, the Grammy and George Is On

The debut Junk Science (1998) consolidated their own voice, with tracks like Stay Gold and the collaboration The Future of the Future with Everything but the Girl, a number 1 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play. In 2002 they won the Grammy for Best Remixed Recording for their version of Thank You by Dido. The second album, George Is On (2005), skyrocketed their global profile: Flashdance reached number 3 in the UK and topped the American dance chart; Say Hello was a number 1 in clubs and received a Grammy nomination for Best Dance Recording in 2006; Dreams, with Stevie Nicks re-recording the Fleetwood Mac vocal, completed that streak. The Global Underground installments for Moscow and Toronto, along with awards in Miami and Ibiza, confirmed their weight as a DJ duo.

The hiatus and the reunion

In 2006 the duo split to explore their own paths: Dubfire towards techno and minimal with the SCI+TEC label; Sharam towards club house, with hits like PATT (Party All the Time). A one-off reunion in 2014 brought the single Quincy, a BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix, and a performance at Ultra Music Festival, before a new hiatus.

The Future, Armada and Midnight

In 2024 they reactivated the project on a stable basis. They signed with Armada Music to bring George Is On back to platforms, reimagined Flashdance and Say Hello, and launched The Future tour. Sold-out residencies at The Cause and fabric in London, a night at Club Space in Miami, and an Essential Mix in 2025 marked their reunion with the audience. Midnight, with Eynka and Wrabel, was their first original in over a decade; followed by Dreaming, with Malou, and new reinterpretations of their catalog. In 2026 they returned to Global Underground with #GU49: Dublin and continued touring, from Coachella to clubs in Europe and the United States, with a progressive house sound that does not break the thread of their legacy.
