Deetron

Three decks and the soul of Detroit in the booth

Deetron's signature is not a closed genre, but a way of mixing: three decks, vinyl, and a thread that goes from Detroit techno to the warmest house without losing the pulse. Raised in Bern, he arrived at electronic music from hip hop—Gang Starr, A Tribe Called Quest, Prince Paul—and from the local example of DJ Djaimin. A Jeff Mills set in the early nineties and the crates of Todd Terry, Juan Atkins, and Kevin Saunderson reoriented his ear. In 1992 he started DJing; by 1994 he was already a resident as Deetron at Club Trax in Rohstofflager, Zurich, where the three-deck technique became his hallmark.

From Soulmate to Twisted

The son of a jazz musician and also trained on the piano, he set up a studio in the mid-nineties and debuted as a producer in 1997 with Soulmate on the Bernese label Phont Music. The relationship with the Belgian Music Man—opened with Dolls for a Diva in 2001—gave body to a club catalog with melody: the album Twisted (2006), with DJ Bone and Paris the Black Fu, and Music Over Matter (2013), with Hercules & Love Affair, Seth Troxler, Cooly G, or Fritz Kalkbrenner. In parallel, he ran a record store in the nineties, the base of a crate-digging habit that still structures his sessions.

Series mixes, Character, and two hundred remixes

That craft was recorded on benchmark mix CDs: In the Mix (2002), Fuse Presents Deetron (2008), Balance 020 (2011), Fabric 76 (2014), and DJ-Kicks (2018) for !K7. The same year as Fabric he released Character, from which came Photon, an underground anthem. As a remixer, he has over two hundred pieces—from Legowelt and Aril Brikha to Ennio Morricone, Tiga, or Todd Terje—and in 2017 he signed Automaton by Jamiroquai, with a tour alongside the group. Re-Creation compiled that archive.

AXIS, Ilian Tape, and House Master

In 2021 he published the conceptual album Rotational Gravity on AXIS, Jeff Mills' label, and joined the new phase of Nu Groove. In 2022 he reactivated Soulmate on Ilian Tape. EPs have followed on Running Back, Mutual Rytm, Rekids, Hot Creations, and Club Gudu, the Running Back Mastermix (2025), and, in May 2026, the recognition from Defected as House Master, with a compilation of three decades and Deep In Your Soul alongside Ben Westbeech. He continues to tour from Switzerland with vinyl as the axis of every session.
