Sacrebleu, Mixmag and a cinematic French Touch

When Yellow Productions released Sacrebleu in 1996, the record didn't sound like the filter house that defined Paris at the time: it mixed jazz, samba, lounge, and Hollywood soundtracks until it smelled like Breakfast at Tiffany's and Henry Mancini. It sold about 300,000 copies and Mixmag placed it among the albums of the year. That gesture—lounge elegance, seventies disco, and a collector's ear—remains the signature of Dimitri From Paris on dancefloors around the world.

The first house on French airwaves

Born in Istanbul to Greek parents and raised in Paris since the age of three, he arrived on the radio with home-made edits of disco hits. He passed through Radio 7 and Skyrock before landing at NRJ, where in 1986 he presented the first house music show broadcast in France, an appointment that lasted more than a decade, until 1998. In parallel, hand in hand with sound designer Michel Gaubert, he signed the runway music for Chanel, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Hermès, and Yves Saint Laurent. On February 17, 2005, the Ministry of Culture named him Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters, in the same ceremony as Air and Philippe Zdar of Cassius.

Playboy Mansion, Defected and the disco archive

After Sacrebleu came compilations that became cult classics: A Night at the Playboy Mansion, Disco Forever, My Salsoul, and After the Playboy Mansion. With Defected he signed the In the House series; with BBE he delved into the archive—Cocktail Disco, Night Dubbin' together with The Idjut Boys, Get Down With The Philly Sound—and with Joey Negro he compiled Kings of Disco. His second studio album, Cruising Attitude, was released in 2003. As a producer, Super Pop Venezuela by Los Amigos Invisibles earned a Grammy nomination. In Japan, he left his mark with the opening theme for the anime Tsukuyomi: Moon Phase and with the alias Dimitri From Tokyo.

Glitterbox, Le Edits and the current booth

Since 2014, he has been a resident of Glitterbox, the Defected night born in Ibiza and turned into a global brand. In 2017 he opened Le Edits Records to reissue disco classics; in 2018 Le Chic Remix brought together ten reinterpretations of Chic and Sister Sledge. In 2022, the sister label DFP Vaults was born. He has remixed Björk, Michael Jackson, Daft Punk, Jamiroquai, New Order, and James Brown, and with the Italian DJ Rocca he releases vintage house as Erodiscotique. More than forty years later, between radio, runway, and booth, he remains the dandy of French disco: unpredictable in tempo, faithful to the groove, and active at Glitterbox and on his own labels.
