An Ayia Napa dubplate that became number 1

In the summer of 2000, a 2-step dubplate was tearing up the dancefloors of Ayia Napa before becoming a national anthem. DJ Pied Piper closed one of the most expensive two-step signings of that season with Relentless and Ministry of Sound, and on June 2, 2001, Do You Really Like It? debuted at number 1 on the UK Singles Chart. The track, produced alongside The Unknown MC and chanted by The Masters of Ceremonies—MC DT, Melody, Sharky P, and Unknown MC himself—stayed on the chart for 14 weeks, also topped the UK Dance Chart, and reached number 13 in Ireland, 33 in Australia, and 11 on the Eurochart Hot 100. It was the eleventh best-selling single of 2001 in the UK and was certified platinum by the BPI, with over 600,000 units sold. DT's chorus—we're lovin' it, lovin' it, lovin' it—became etched in the collective memory of UK garage.

Da Click, Soul Food, and the Brixton rap-garage crossover

From Brixton, London, Piper worked side-by-side with his brother Kamanchi Sly—Unknown MC and former member of Hijack—to bring the flow of British rap to garage. With MC Creed, PSG, Unknown MC, and singer Valerie M, he formed Da Click. Good Rhymes, released by FFRR and interpolating Chic's Good Times and Luther Vandross's Never Too Much, reached no. 14 in January 1999 and stayed on the chart for six weeks. The second single, We Are Da Click, reached 38. His label Soul Food Recordings first pressed Do You Really Like It? independently (catalog SF007) before the commercial leap of May 2001. The second cut from the Masters of Ceremonies project, We R Here, was released the same year; in 2002, the mashup Kinda Wicked with Jammin circulated on white label. Later, he reunited Creed, PSG, DT, Sharky P, and Unknown MC for For The Ladies, with a music video for SBTV.

DJ booth, Kiss, and the UKG revival

As a DJ, Piper has remained in the British garage booth: invitations to DJ EZ's UKG show on Kiss 100, Garage Nation nights—including the O2 Arena—and dates with MC Creed at London clubs like 93 Feet East or Studio 338. In 2020, the hook from Do You Really Like It? reappeared on Really Love by KSI featuring Craig David, no. 3 in the UK; a year later, Tinie Tempah interpolated the chorus in Love Me Like This. In 2023, he released the single Yes Yes on Sovereign Music UK, and in 2024, the group re-recorded their classic for an Andrex campaign. Today, he continues to perform in the UK garage, 2-step, and garage house revival circuit, the same vocabulary of MCs, bass, and dancefloor response that filled the radio and the terraces of Cyprus in 2001.
