Hernan Cattaneo's sets are recognized by a precise idea: building long, progressive, and emotional journeys without losing control of the narrative. His figure has been decisive in taking Argentine progressive house from a local scene to an international language, with a DJing style based on gradual tension, melodic depth, and an elegance rarely prone to the easy hit. That reputation turned him into a cult reference for several generations of audiences and DJs, to the point of being known worldwide as El Maestro.

From the vinyls of Caballito to the global dancefloor

Born in the Caballito neighborhood in Buenos Aires, he grew up listening to pop, new wave, and club music, with Depeche Mode and New Order among his first coordinates and with Frankie Knuckles, Inner City, and Derrick May as fundamental stimuli. Before his international projection, he played music at social parties, spent time in booths in Buenos Aires and Villa Gesell, and worked at the FM Z95 station, key to the spread of dance music in Argentina. The turning point came with his residency at Clubland Pacha Buenos Aires in the nineties: there he consolidated his own style and strengthened ties with Paul Oakenfold, Sasha, and John Digweed. That stage opened the door to international tours and an unprecedented position for a South American DJ within the global circuit. He was a South American resident for Cream and performed at Cream venues in Liverpool and Ibiza, in addition to developing residencies and dates in clubs and festivals in Europe, America, and Asia.

Sudbeat, Resident, and the sunset ritual

His discography combines his own production, remixes, and author compilations. The series for Renaissance, the works Sequential, Balance 026, Balance Presents Sudbeat, and Balance Presents Sunsetstrip reflect his ability to arrange others' music as a continuous narrative. With Sudbeat, the label he runs together with Graziano Raffa, he has promoted a line of progressive house and melodic electronica associated with artists such as Guy J, Henry Saiz, Nick Warren, Danny Howells, Guy Mantzur, or Soundexile. His weekly program Resident extends that curation in radio and podcast format, maintaining a direct connection with a loyal international community.

In recent years, his universe has expanded with Connected, a symphonic experience presented at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, and Sunsetstrip, a daytime and open-air format that reinforces his defense of electronica as music for listening, landscape, and collective celebration. Recognized by DJ Mag for a decade in the Top 100, winner of the DJ Award for progressive house in Ibiza in 2018, and distinguished by the Konex Awards in 2025, Cattaneo maintains a unique position: that of a veteran DJ who continues to sound current without abandoning the patience, meticulous selection, and emotional architecture that define his identity.
